Welcome to JKF... Usually Black is Ground.. Red usually HOT.. If you have a Probe test light check the White for 12 v and the Black to ground.. Were there any wiring instructions with the new LEDs? It is clear that you will be splicing together wires. You could try to connect the Red to battery positive and black to ground see if that turns the light on. Will be interesting as to what is the Yellow Function ..

No instructions unfortunately.
The yellow wire is what prompted the question. I have no clue what to do with it if I "splice"

Do the fog lights have a halo ring? I would bench test them with 12 V. Black is certainly ground but you need to figure out what the Red and Yellow do.

and do they create enough load on the system to not throw a code. Where were they manufactured if they are new?

Just hooked to 12v. Yellow turns on "X" shaped light in center of LEDs.
Haven't hooked them to Jeep yet, so unsure of "code".
Purchased as gift off Amazon, so unsure of manufacturer/origin

It appears previous owner used wires from stock bumper fogs

Yep - I would follow Sixty4X4's logic -

Somewhere on the lights (or box \ packing tape, etc) there is a name, number, or some other distinguishing mark that can be tracked down.

Did these lights come as 'stand alone' kit (lights + switch) ?

Off the top of my head, I would guess that:

1. Red - Hot
2. Black - Ground
3. Yellow - Switch to turn them on/off

Not sure if you found your answer to the purpose of the yellow wire yet, but it's possibly for DRL(Daytime Running Lights) function. My aftermarket lights came with a yellow wire that i just left disconnected.
