Question Problem with radio

When I start up my vehicle and shift either in Reverse or first gear my radio shuts down for a second or two, while the vehicle is moving. Then the radio comes back on like nothing happened. I most add that right before it shuts off it makes a pop sound. I do have an appointment for next tuesday to take it in to my local dealer to find out what the problem is with the radio. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this same problem.

Jeep wave to all.

That is really wierd. No joke, I have heard of radios shutting down for opening up a window, or operating another electronic device but never for what you've just described. Please let us know what you find out at the dealer.

Wow, that is an interesting hidden feature youve discovered...

My radio work fine (so far), havent heard anyone else with this problem, so since you seem to have discovered it, i believe that means you get to name it.

Laughin at your location... Corn hell & insanity? where is that exactly... south eastern Nebraska?

HappyCurmudgen you would be sorta correct about Neb. but actually I live in the Northeastern part of Colorado where there is no mountains around which is a bummer. As for naming the problem the name would be with lots of cussing and unexplained hand gestures toward the offend object (radio).

Wayolife I will try my best to get back with you guys on the radio problem on tuesday as long as the mech. can explain to me in simple words

Jazzdshaw sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing, hopefully it is just a simple to fix.

I as well have had some problems with the radio shutting off for a sec. i see it is not an isolated instance. mine clips off when i go into first a bit hard, like a lunge start. and happened a few more times as i was teaching my brother how to drive stick. every time he would have a poor start (almost stall) it would turn off and on.

may be a wiring defect from factory?

It sounds like the power wire or ground is loose. But having the same problem on several vehicles sounds a little strange. Radios are tied into the electronics on cars these days in very strange ways. On some Honda's, the Maintenance Needed light is reset through the radio. Ford radios are tied into the Daytime Running Lights. If you don't hook up those up correctly, you won't have any lights! Given the number of people who are experiencing this problem, it might be a Gremlin in the electrical system of the vehicle. I'm interested in finding out what the shop finds.

Default Radio reset

Check with the dealer to see if there are any service bulletins out for that.

I have the same type of problem but with the windows. I have a 4 dr and if I try putting up 2 windows at a time, the radio shorts out until I let go of the window switches. Could this be a safety mechanism?

Default radio

Mine went on and off a couple of times in the first 25 miles but has not done it since. Once pulling up to a stop light and once just running down the road.
