Running Engine
When I bought my Jeep it came with an overpriced alarm system that I as going to replace. After a thousand miles of driving it I had a unusual issue that when the key was taken out the engine would still run. Somehow it worked itself out and then had a new alarm put in.
After I got my Hemi put in my new alarm was not working and have started using the original one since both alarms were still in the Jeep. After picking up my Jeep at Burnsville and driving back home last year (about a thousand miles) the same issue came back. Jeep dealer checked and thought there was sort of program on the original alarm that kept the engine running for a certain amount of time after the key was disengaged.
Just checking with all you electronic wizards for a possible reason for this or some type of answer!
I think its pretty amusing as when I do exit and set the alarm people will stop me and say I left the Jeep on…..

Sounds dangerous. I know the likelihood of this happening is extremely remote, but what are you going to do if you have a stuck throttle or total brake failure? Turn off the engine while speeding down the highway at 75 mph and wait for your alarm system to decide that you need to use engine braking? Get it fixed.
well i can not argue that valid point!
but my phishing was to see if anyone else has ever experienced this.
if i am shooting down the highway i have seat ejectors but must remember not to deploy them when driving through a tunnel.

I'm not a electronics wizard, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. I need you to send me your Hemi, I'll send you my stock engine and I'll let you know if I can re-create the problem...jim
PS: You can keep the seat ejectors.
So you're using the original alarm that was giving you problems.... and now the engine runs again?
Maybe this alarm has a "Turbo timer" feature. For cars with turbo engines, some alarms will keep the motor running after some use, so that the oil for the turbo has time to cool. This is my best guess

Actually if they used some sort of sentry key bypass (did your alarm come with remote start function?), its possible that it has a delay. Like my remote start bypass (PKU-CH2X) has a 5 second output after remote start shutdown that prevents you from shifting for 5 seconds after inserting the key. I have seen some other sentry key bypasses that will prevent the engine shutdown for the same 5 seconds....also does this on newer gm cars/trucks
I have the same problem. My jeep will stay running for about 10 to 15 seconds after i turn the key off. I have a Clifford alarm/remote start system in and the 556uw sentry key bypass system with an extra key under the dash. The alarm does have a turbo timer system but i dont remember setting it. The problem only started about a month or so after i set up the system so i have let it go.. Great way to remember not to park the car in gear>>>>>>
