Default Sub-Woofer Removal

Got one of those early sub-woofers that take up valuable room. Does anyone know if this can be removed without throwing a code or affecting the radio? Need the room more so than the sound. If it affects the radio can a resistor of same impedance value as the speaker be placed in the line to fool the radio? Or is there a compact sub-woofer that will work and be out of the way? Sorry for all the questions.

I have all the answers folks by looking on old posts. There is part numbers for old Mopar panels that deleted the subwoofer and looks like I can run without the speaker affecting the system. Upgrade of the tweeter speakers and the overhead speakers are a big improvement apparently so I will look into this.

I installed the kicker mopar speakers when I replaced my head unit. There is a huge improvement in sound. I’m sure some of the improvements are attributed to the new head unit but even a good head unit won’t sound good unless the speakers are also good. I’m not getting competition type good sound (speakers are driven from 16w at the head unit) but there is definitely a huge improvement over the cheap stock speakers.

So even if you already have the alpine sub woofer in the back, you don't already have these upgraded 6.5" speakers? Asking because, in my 2013 2 door, I put these in the dash and overhead, upgraded the tweeters, new head unit and ran an amp behind the glove box and the difference was amazing.

Today I test drove a 2013 4 Door Sahara, I saw the alpine sub in the rear and I was hoping that I already had the upgraded 6.5" and wouldn't have to do it all again. Also, is that sub really worth a hoot? in my two door I had two 10" kickers and a seperate amp, it was so perfect. This 4 door was a far cry from that. Obviously its a bigger rig, no where near as amplified, but should I just plan on pulling it out if I want that perfect sound again? Replacing the tombstone tweeters was the best change that I did on the last one, will definately be doing that again.

I am going with the kickers that SV_Dude indicated, remove the sub completely and upgrade the tombstone tweeters that 1BadMoFo advised about. Any details on those tweeters please? Not going to change any radio bits as it runs good now and don't want to play with it and have trouble.

These are the kicker tweeters that fit into the little tombstone. Believe it or not, that was the most noticable upgrade in the stereo system. The Kicker/Mopar premiums are definately better than stock though. Then I ran an Alpine amp, put it behind the glove box, to power the tweeters and the four 6.5 inch mids. I found the amp at best buy as an open box and got it for a fraction of the amazon asking price, just make sure that it is the "U" for universal.

Found them on Amazon. How did you mount these inside the tombstones or specifically how did you remove the tombstones? Also saw where a fellow mentioned difficulty removing the tombstones without taking the dash apart. Any guidance here please.

It was easy, I took it to Best Buy in the morning, came back after lunch and it was done LOL.

Seriously, the installer did say that it was B, that it involved some slight modifications to the inside of the tombstones, so if I ever wanted to return the jeep to stock he would do everything except those so that is how much "carving" he must have had to do to the inside. You cannot tell from the outside one bit, except the huge change in sound quality.

I do not know if the front of the tombstone pops off, or if you have to remove the whole top of the dash, sorry...
