Switches above mirror
if you get something like the off road engineering custom switch panel, you can mount it just about anywhere...

To the left of the steering wheel just above the speaker would proably be the easiest place to install one of these...

Or, you could install it just under the center console as shown.

Just behind the cup holders might work well too...

I have a Rock Hard Sport Cage and almost installed it here...

Heck, I even thought about installing it under the e-brake lever...

Being so small and light, you could easily install one on the plastic windshield header cover like this too...

There's some room back there, but I'm not sure there's enough depth for the switches. What I've seen done is get the lower daystar panel, and cut out the panel part (so you just have the box that the switches mount in), and then cut a hole for that above the mirror. If you're careful with the cutting, it can come out pretty sharp. Then you have the switches up there out of the way, and it looks damn good.
