Default Want to add an alarm system

Hey everybody.
I have a 2009 Wrangler Unlim. X with auto trans., keyless entry, power windows, all that, whatever that package is. I want to add an alarm because I've upgraded my stereo and speakers and getting ready to add a sub.

Has anyone installed the Avital/Hornet/Viper/DEI 3903T system??

It is supposed to allow you to use FACTORY key fobs to arm/disarm and it comes with an alarm horn, control module, valet module with LED and will integrate with the CAN system in our Jeeps. It also has a shock sensor.

I can find them at various sites online foe around 70 bucks! Almost seems to good to be true! AM I MISSING SOMETHING?? Does my particular Jeep HAVE to have something already factory ready for this thing to work? Some kind of factory security upgrade or something?

Thanks

If you have electric door locks, doesn't your Jeep already have an alarm? Mine does. The horn sounds if you open the door and the ignition won't work. About all you would be adding is a siren in place of the horn blowing. In that case, $70 sounds about right.

The alarm I'm looking at has a shock sensor built-in and also has another auxilliary input or two. And I think something to protect the hood latch. The shock sensor is what interests me most.

It does seem too cheap to be very effective, particularly because it seems like everything we buy for our Jeeps is NOT cheap. Maybe because of the "factory alarm" there isn't much that needs to be added to get a little more protection. I guess I can't go too wrong for 70 bucks!

If you have the EVS I alarm in your Jk, it already has a shock sensor built into it, and the shock sensor can be adjusted to be more or less sensitive, as outlined in the Alarm Manual. Here is the link for the thread on how to do this:
Stock Alarm too sensitive?
Post #5 describes it, and post #9 has the procedures from the manual.
Here is a copy of the procedure from the manual for the EVS I system.

For some reason the link did not hypertext. So just go to the JK Electrical, Lighting & Sound Systems, and search " stock alarm too sensitive"

Thanks LORREL for the help!

So.........
How do I know if my Jeep has the EVS I alarm?? Is it a seperate option, factory or dealer installed? Part of the package with PW, PDL, all that?

I know the alarm goes off if the "system" is armed and you open a door.

All the manual says is "If Equipped". How do I know? I don't see anything ANYWHERE!

THE most important thing to me is the shock sensor. Again, how do I know?

I guess I can just arm the thing and initiate a "shock" and see if it goes off!

I don't mean to sound like a smart ass. I VERY much appreciate all the help, but you would think, if the thing had a "real" alarm system with a shock sensor, it would be a little more prominent in the advertising or even the owners manual!

JEEEEEEEZ!!!!!

Refer to this post

Basically a Viper product that has D2D (data to data)
EG: a Viper 5301

A "CHALL" a "CHTH2" and 1-diode

and you have a remote start/alarm for cheaper than 400 bucks thats DIY and Plug and Play!

I went that way, keeps to the KISS acronym i like it

Okay, I'll try to describe this thing a little more clearly.
Directed Electronics, through their Xpresskit website, shows 2 different security systems when you enter a 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to find a system for your vehicle. The Viper 3903V and the Python 3903T. They are identical. Viper, Python, Avital, Clifford, Xpresskit, and others are ALL DEI companies.
Somewhere on Amazon I found an Avital 3903T for 70 bucks.
There is a car audio/alarm shop in the Cincinnati area, near where I live that shows this alarm and decsription:

3903T Directed CANBUS OEM Factory
Alarm Upgrade

3903T New CANBUS enabled systems from Directed add full security to the factory keyless entry system. Directed CANBUS security upgrade systems are vehicle specific. They
are programmed with vehicle specific firmware that communicates directly with the OEM CANBUS system to monitor and interact with the electronic functions of the vehicle.
Three hardware platforms cover the three types of CANBUS systems currently in use by OEM vehicle makers; FT, SW, and HS. Directed’s CANBUS systems use certified CAN transceivers to insure accurate communications without data collision and work seamlessly with
all factory electronics. Directed systems do not “bit bang” data messages on the OEM bus.

FEATURES:
Directed CANBUS security systems use the OEM keyless entry remote to control arm and disarm via the vehicle’s CANBUS system, communicating with the vehicle via ultra secure, high-speed digital data:

* Door, hood, trunk, and ignition protection.
* Built-in Stinger® Doubleguard Shock Sensor
* Revenger® 6-tone Siren
* Failsafe® Starter Kill
* Superbright LED
* Parking Light Flash
* Horn Honk Output
* AUX Output
* Optional Sensor Input (MUX) Port

Directed CANBUS security systems are all Remote Start compatible and can be used to activate a Valet 561T remote start module.
*Some features not available on all vehicles

I sent an e mail to this shop and they said this should be all I need, but their price is 130 bucks.
I've seen, on various sites, this 3903T, from some of the different DEI companies, at very different prices. But ALL of the descriptions are the same and even the pictures are the same.
There is a siren, a smaller module, and a little bit bigger module. I guess they are vehicle specific, programmed with specific firmware for a particular vehicle.
I have sent an e mail to DEI to get more info but haven't heard back yet.
I was just hoping someone here had installed one of these, or at least heard of them.
