Invest2m4's broke the budget build; tons, 40s and triangles...
I will definitely be watching!!! Already curious as to why you picked the nitto trail grapplers? I am also looking at this tire in the same size,, but am having a hard time committing to it. Also thinking of MTR Kevlar, or Maxis Trepador.
The 40" version is different than the other sizes as well. Uses the same mold as the k-spec race tire. They look sick in person. Comparing it to the 35" Nitto, it's definitely different.
The Trepadors are awesome in comp compound. As a radial, it's not. I think it placed last in the 4 wheeler tire test. That would be the last tire on my list.
Well, for all those who say a D30 can handle 37s and that it's no sweat for a D44, I disagree. Not how I wanted the build to start. Drain the gear oil after pulling the axles and ring teeth fell out of the front (D44). As you can see in the pictures, it's a case of shock load. Big tires get traction and all the teeth engaged with the pinion at that moment, break off. And they leave a distinct crystal looking structure behind.
I debated and researched tires for several months. I have the MTRs now, and haven't liked them at all. The Nittos have a much softer compound (by feel and durometer). I've watched them in action every time I wheeled this year and they consistently performed.

I've seen the 40" in action. He's the only guy who could follow the buggies with stickies. And he was rolling a heavy 4 door. In my view, probably the best on and offroad none sticky. If you want more offroad, move to stickies.
One other factor was cost. I paid $440/each shipped. MTRs are over $500 as are Treps. KM2s are like $700. I can see where one tire may edge the other out in certain wheeling, but for $500+ more, not even close to worth the cost.
Probably a good time to provide some teaser to the build. Partial mod list:
- Axles: D60 and Sterling 10.5 off of a 2010 Ford F350 (72" WMS to WMS)
- Suspension setup: Double triangulated four link rear, 3 link front
- Stretch: 7" rear, 5" front (still hydro assist; wait for the magic)
- Articulation department: 16" ORI STX struts all around
- Gas tank: relocated to a sneaky place so that I can still use the rear seat and have storage
All fabrication done by me.

Why the 10.5 over a 14 bolt or D80 in the rear, except that they came in a set.
I like the idea of struts and their tunability, the only disadvantage I have seen is if you blow a seal you have one collapsed corner.
