As far as GY MT/R's are concerned, you've seen them (37's) run up the muddy, wet hill last month when Tony and Chris got a little stuck, and also on the loop around Doran. So far they've performed well and really haven't slowed me down, but I'm still partial to my previous BFG's (although they were only 35's). They felt like they provided a little more grip. If I had the choice of 20's or 17's, I'd prefer the 17's. Maybe we can get together on a run soon and you can check em out and give them a little test drive.

I haven't tried them out in the snow/ice, but next month I'll be up in Big Bear and may get a chance to run them in the snow.

J. R.
Thanks JR. Yes, now I remember that your MTRs did great - you were slinging mud all over me as you dominated that hill. Let me know how they do in the snow. Also, which BFGs were you running previously?

I'm running 37 MTRs with 17's and live them. That being said I don't have any rocks here in FL but they do great in the sand and mud.

That's good to know - thanks. I spent a lot of time in Florida while in the military and you're right, a LOT of sand and mud, but no rocks.

Many of us in Washington run MTR. I run 37s and they are good in snow, rain, slimy mud roots/rocks and so far dry rock. I've had them pretty twisted up aired down on rock with my beadlocks and the sidewalls have held up fine. They are little loud on the road but I've got used to the noise. A buddy runs Krawlers in good weather and of course loves their rock prowess, but switches to MTR for winter traction. Hope this helps.

Thanks Gary. I got a good chance today to compare the Krawler and MTR on big dry rocks at Clawhammer in Johnson Valley and I prefer the Krawlers. But I think your buddy has it right, Krawlers on rocks, MTRs for the winter stuff. Decisions, decisions...

After a lot of great input and some tire testing on some big rocks yesterday I've decided to go with the BFG Krawler (blue label) in the 42x14.5R20 size! In keeping with the junkyard theme of this build I'm actively looking for a slightly used set of 5. Please let me know if you have any leads on these tires...
