Manual or Auto for offroading
Manual is the way to go on and off road.
1. stick's have less moving parts than an auto.
2. Driving a stick is only a pain in the ass if you don't know how to drive it well.
3. You can't rock back and fourth with an auto as easy as you can with a stick or as fast.
4. Sticks are more fun.
5. stick's generaly get better mpg.
6. On the road traffic is only a pain in the ass if you don't leave space infront of you. I know this for a fact. I drove a 26' straight job in boston for 15 years space works.
Now I can see why auto are easier. Just look at ebay 2/3's of the jeeps are auto's. I got nothing against auto's. There just not for me.

for me is auto all the way, I do have a few standard cars, and also a tacoma that I do wheel, I prefer my jeep auto. I don't know how many competitions I've been to were the jeep stalls in the middle of the hill, and the driver has a hard time turning it back on, but at the end, for me is autoSome of us bitching and whining about gears aren't concerned about going faster, we are concerned about going slower. I personally don't like my vehicle idling at 10 mph when I let out the clutch. Also with 3.21 gears and 32" tires, you have to ride the clutch pretty bad sometimes just to get it moving, especially if you are up against something. In 4lo there have been steep hills that I have had the gas pedal all the way to the floor, clutch all the way out, and the jeep still almost stalled. I prefer easing over things instead of hitting them that fast. I assume from your post that you either don't wheel very hard, (like me,) or that you don't have 3.21 gears.

Hi I read your sig. you say "vinyl seats rock" is that after you lose the first layer of skin on a hot day with shorts on? or the fact that they clean off with a hose?
I can't tell you the trouble I have been in durring water crossings with a standard. I once sucked up a small bush through my clutch fork and into my clutch. It toasted the clutch, preassure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bushing, the list goes on and on...
Beside the advantages of an easy/more controled manvers with less roll, the auto has one HUGE advantage... LIFETIME WARRANTY! A clutch is considered a consumable, and it has no warranty past the 3 year.

Maybe I am wrong.,.,.,,
auto here. i would love to have manual for the steep downhills but nothing is better at crawling then an auto. I can focus on the obstical instead of riding the clutch all day. I borrowed my freinds ranger the other day and was hauling some wood. i had to pull the truck up out of some ruts and up a hill....what a PITA that was. Poor clutch was screaming. stalled twice and i am a excellent manual driver!
now a sports car......stick all the way.

. Now I'm not poking fun at you and I mean no disrespect. Both have their pro's and con's. But I do prefer the stick

so Auto for me as well
