So far have been lucky in the zombie department, haven't had the misfortune of meeting any yet. Have been on trails where a tree had fallen accross the trail and there was no way to winch it out of the way due to all the other trees it was wedged into. Using the axe and the tree saw we got them out of the way each and every time. Had to use the axe to make a notch for the saw since the trees were so big around.

I keep a hatchet and small bow saw handy. Just saw an attachment for the hi-lift jacks which make the handle double as a shovel...pretty cool

Okay, so lets modify the question from why do you carry an axe to why are you required to carry an axe???

And lets not continue making this a Zombie thread. I live in Colorado. Zombies have been out-lawed for a number of years and thus we don't have any now. Once in a while one tries to sneak across the borders from the lessor states, but we took care of that. Last year a couple of zombies got in and ate a small child. A small fat child. They only got caught because they threw up the fat kid. Seems the meat in Colorado is too pure for zombies. Any how, we installed anti-zombie electrical charge towers. They zap 'em when they try to enter Colorado.

I guess I could carry an axe in the summer and two shovels in the winter.

I do like flannel. An axe would be a nice accessory.
