Custom modular JK hardtop
Update on the JK half door slider project: today I received the price quote I've been waiting on from the second window company. They prices are better than I expected, so I reviewed them with the company that's interested in bringing them to market. They want to continue moving forward, so the next step is for me to meet with the window company to finalize the engineering details of the sliders. We did the quote based on preliminary measurements and specs, now it's time to finalize the details so an initial manufacturing run of the windows can be done. I'll provide regular updates as the project progresses.

Jeff as always I love reading about all your designs and progress. Hope you guys are staying warm up there. Next year I will make plans to attend EJS and would love to meet up on the road out. This year not an option with jeep beach and all but next is in the works. Keep up all the great ideas and progress this is what I love about owning a Jeep. I am glad I got the chance to see the LJ in person and share a drink with a true innovator. Best to you and your family.

This is probably a ridiculous question, but here goes. Is there any idea when these might come to market? I have half doors that I was about to sell, but will keep them if yours are coming in a reasonable time period. I'm the guy that offered to ship you my Mopar half doors for fitment purposes on another site you are no longer on.
Also in addition to the sets of windows from the initial production run that the company will keep for it's own use and further testing, I know at least two of the sets from the initial production run have already been "spoken for" even though no date or pricing has been announced yet, so it may not be until the full production run that they're generally available if the initial production run gets committed to people before they're ready for sale.
There are also a few decisions that have to be made by the company that'll be selling these - tint, for example. They plan to offer both clear and at least one tint, probably a tint to match the factory tint of the rear windows of the Jeep, but there are almost as many tint laws are there are states (Tint Laws), so that's got to be decided. It might be that the initial run will be clear and the tints will come in the full production run, but that's not decided yet. If anyone has input on the tint question I'd like to hear it.

I don't have a date for availability, but here's the plan. In the second week of April I'm meeting with the window company to do the final engineering of the sliders (won't be able to meet with them until after I get back from Easter Jeep Safari). Once that's done, the window company will update their preliminary engineering drawings and price quotes, and then the company I'm helping with this can place an initial order. The initial order will be a fairly small number of windows, some for test purposes and the rest to sell to "early adopters". So probably mid-late April before the order can be placed, and I'd guess it might be at least a month before the windows got made up, I know the window company has been very busy lately. Once the windows are manufactured, some testing can be done and if all proves satisfactory, the rest of the windows from the initial production run will be offered for sale and a full production order can be scheduled. So absolute best case would be about two months, but having been through stuff like this before I'd guess it would be more like 3-4 months given the many possible delays that inevitably happen.
