do you remember your first driving lesson???
I have let my 12 y/o son drive a few times. Off road in 4 lo, in the parking lot with snow, and with the boat launching/retirieving (sometimes in the jeep sometimes in the boat). I believe that responsibily and respect for any machinery can be taught early. He thinks the world of me when I let him do things like that-wifey always treats him like kid.
Around 1969. Red with a white top 67 Jeepster Commando. 9 years old. Dirt road to grandma's house. Drove maybe a 1/4 mile. Was in heaven!
Now almost 40 years later teaching my 19 yr old daughter to drive a standard shift. She's not doing bad. Just a bit more practice taking off on hills and I'll turn her loose.
My wife will be next.
Anyone have an extra bed room?

My brother used to take me out in the sand pits in a '75 Bronco 4x4 with a 3 speed on the column. I remember him telling me "Just keep it moving, don't let it stop"
Words to live by ....in the sand.

I used to shift the gears for my dad as he drove. Started when I was 7. When I was fourteen, I was rolling the car done the street so my parents would not hear it start as they slept. I would drive to the Southside of Chicago (1984) playing my sax in Blues clubs.
Now my brother's story is a little diferent. My parents had him in the MG Midget (almost a go-kart) and he put it through the kitchen wall. OOOOppppps!!!!!
