I opted for the snorkel first and will add the roof rack later, but I also have a trailer so that helps out when I need the extra space.

I would definitely go for the gobi rack as this is what I am planning. Haven't seen any real issues with the other style, but I think they look better and do have more length / flat space available.

JK- I met you last year the first time i took my JK out, to gen. sams... my rig and abilities have developed since then. my current setup is a a few pages back. I am in JV, lets overland it! I have.2 small boys folded.into.a.bungie-cord riddled 2. door!

I ran it on high for a bit but mostly low and got maybe 4-5 hours out of one 1 lb cylinder. it's supposed to get between 3-6 hours per tank (depending on low/high usage). mr heater sells an adapter hose to run it off of larger tanks, too.

Can't say for sure on all models, but I believe there's a bracket being made to adapt the rugged ridge modular snorkel to work with the gobi rack. That's the snorkel I plan to get eventually. Search around on here, you might find somebody with the same snorkel working with a roof rack.

Another option might be the new AEV roof rack.
