Expedition Modded Jeeps - Let's see 'em!!
It's been in the shop quite a while, but it's back and I am beyond stoked.
More picts later. Currently not pictured - My Maggiolina AirTop RTT (on the forum in other picts) and Hannibal Safari Awning (not previously installed). Those later.
Do we have an expedition trip-planner thread? That's the next thread I want to read. I'm too old for non-North American travel, so I'll be looking for things to do on this continent. I nominate Mark D for King of that thread.
I'll be looking for people in SoCal to travel with BTW. I made the mistake of setting out with my son on my own and having an electrical breakdown a year ago that left me stranded and at the mercy of fate in a way that made me want to shoot myself. Had I been alone, it would have been no big deal, but with my kid it was a game-changer. Never again. I will always travel in at least pairs from here on out and I'm getting a satellite phone.
Next on the agenda, a Hemi or Diesel upgrade, but not right now. Out of cash.
Special thanks to Alex Carvallo and his team at American Overland Expedition. He is the man and his shop is all about getting things done the right way.
NOTE - Nitto Trail Grappler 37's and AEV 4.5" lift. I am fully aware that this is an overbuild for expeditioning/overlanding. I'm ok with that. More specifics on my build later. I can whole-heartedly recommend the AEV lift however. It handles wonderfully and rides a thousand times better than it did on the stock suspension.
Quick rundown on recent additions:
ARB Twin On-board Air with outlets just inside both rear doors for air-ups after air-downs.
AEV Beadlock Wheels
Chromoly axle shaft upgrades
Gusseting and full reinforcement on OEM Rubi Axles to help with 37's support.
Teraflex Front Brake Upgrade
Full underbody armor
New driveshafts to accomodate lift
Back-up and hill crest peek-over camera (just made that term up). No spotter required when you're cresting a ridge you haven't been to before. (screen in rearview)
AEV rear bumper
AEV gas tank (10 gall)
Pull pal mount
Hi Lift 60" Emergency Responder (poor man's Jaws of Life) Range Jack. My dad call's Hi-Lift's range jacks. He's a former search and rescue dude for miners.
Hannibal Safari Awning (Yes I had to import it).
Maggiolina Airtop RTT
Custom Fabricated cross bars for RTT to mount it better to Gobi
Fabrication and modification to Gobi allowing rear vertical bars to mount to fabricated corner plates due to incompatibility between Gobi and AEV rear bumper.
ARB fridge install.
Cooktop install under fridge.
Fuel tank for cooktop.
2 Drawer Storage System.
Rubicrawler Gear Set.
Poison Spyder Rock Sliders
Poison Spyder Internal Roll Cage (Trail version I think)
Tuffy center console with CB.
Tuffy under driver's seat storage
AEV Heat Reduction Hood
Trucklite LED Headlights
Better picts later and somewhere better than up the street from my house. At least it's not in front of the grocery store.

This is my 2007 Sahara edition. I still have quite a few more upgrades to do before I will call it expedition ready. So far this is the list:
295 70 X R17" Nitto Trail Grapplers, ProComp Xtreme Wheels, Rubicon Express 2.5 lift kit, Rockhard oil / transmission skid plate, Smitty XRC front bumper with 8000 lb XRC synthetic line winch, Poison Spyder body armor, Smittybuilt over sized tire carrier, Smitty XRC rock sliders, warrior prod. hood- hi-lift jack mount, kc windshield mounted spot lights (slim lights), Procomp slim lights driving lamps, VIAIR ADA- OBA system, Smitty GEAR seat covers, Cobra 40 channel with weather band CB radio, Optima yellow top deep cycle battery, Trail table mod on tail gate (homemade). I purchased the trailer on craigslist and plan on turning it into a camping trailer.

Thanks
Gears = 538
Camera = Kenwood
I still haven't settled my final tab with Alex at American Overland Expedition, so I don't have an itemized list of equipment and he's on a run this weekend, but he knew the cameras were Kenwood. He wasn't sure about the mirror monitor, but we will dig into it and I'll let you know. I'm going to get some picts up of everything next week hopefully.
Scott
Thanks Gregg. And thanks to Ooohthatguy and Xerofall for the props too. Also nice rig BigVic! San Dimas? Maybe we should hit some local trails together.

Not sure exactly when yet, but since I did such a massive build all at once, I'm going to head out for some 'sea trials' like they do in the Navy to make sure everything works. One of my favorite local spots that I went to many times when my Rubi was stock is Rowher Flats. It's about an hour fifteen from San Dimas and 40 minutes from me. It's an OHV park and it's not huge, but it has some great extremely technical stuff, all with bypasses too. I might run out there in a few weeks to do a run and test out my new drivetrain and then maybe also fix a meal at the top of the hill just to test the stove and food prep out. Then again, I might not get that organized. Either way, PM me with your email address and we will stay in touch.

I'm more into overlanding, but I like to be able to traverse technical obstacles as well and Rowher is perfect for checking all of this stuff out. I think it has the best and worst of what you'd ever encounter on a trip.

So thanks to this thread, I've been on the lookout for a Gobi rack. One recently came up on CL and I checked it out. It was a Ranger model and was pretty good shape except for one little thing... The rear brackets were missing!
He had forgotten about them when he sold the Jeep. One call to Gobi and they want $399 for the set. OUCH! I'm I might make an offer anyway and see what he thinks. The rack is useless without the brackets anyway, so either he buys the brackets to selll the rack or sell the rack cheap
