For the 4x4 Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail (TWAT) gpx file and Google Earth link.

Copy this link to the GPX file:

And then go here and paste it into the box at the lower right:

Getting a gobi roof rack for a trip with the family. what are you all using to keep your gear dry on the roof rack. Im on the east coast of canada and rain is'nt a possibility, its a given.

On an unrelated note, I got my tablet running gps and nav off line now, so I just need to get the dash mount for my tablet and phone. I also loaded topo maps into my nuvi 1350. Good for reference, but the tablet is much better as it much bigger so you can see more of the terrain.

spent saturday doing a little overland adventure with the family. had a ball. and we will be doing many more of these in the future.

Kojack, I know a lot of people are using different pelican cases or other waterproof boxes. I just bought a cheap waterproof soft luggage carrier (I think around $60) and it fits perfectly between the back cargo section of the rack. Haven't had it in HEAVY rain yet but regular showers have not leaked through.

So I guess the trick is to set up at the dunes? When we were there a couple weeks ago my tent was about to fold in half! Going back next week and want to plan a little better this time!

I have been through some hellacious rain storms in my travels with the gray boxes that you see on top of my Jeep in many of the videos and photos. And I've never had anything get wet. Having said that, if it did happen, it would not be a big problem for me because the most vulnerable things are a roll or toilet paper (kept in a Zip-Loc bag) and a roll of paper towels. Everything else is stove, pots, ropes, etc. that wouldn't be harmed should a leak occur. Having also said, that, I've been down-sizing my gear and had a little extra cash (okay, these aren't cheap--you've been warned), so picked up some Alu-Boxes. Incredibly well built. So water tight that you have to fight a little to break the seal when you open them. If you want cheap, Sterilite at Wal-Mart for about $20. If you want excellent protection in a wide variety of sizes, Alu-Boxes. BTW: I know about Action Packers. Well regarded by many, but I find the very thick sides a problem because you lose a lot of valuable storage space. Still, a good, strong option at a pretty reasonable price. Check into them if storage space isn't premium for you.

Edit: Oh, the Sterilites allowed a lot(!) of dust onto my gear during that Moab Overland 2013 run. A lot. That was one of the primary reasons I'm opting for the Alu-boxes. Just a hassle to clean everything up when I needed to use it and when I got back home.
