I think you meant that question for UKCRD. He has a thread on it here ...

Do you all think a snorkel for expedition travel is really necessary? I live in an area with tight trails with a lot of trees and I'm wondering about banging it around during normal off-roading.

I'm installing the Rugged Ridge snorkel today and u can switch between high and low mount on it so I like that idea. Also the dude that helped fab it said he is in NC and has the same conditions as you and thats why he had it sit in more than other snorkels.

Sent from the hand of the RSB himself!!!

I've looked at that Rugged Ridge one and I like the idea of being able to extend it. Let me know how the install is. I heard you have to take a lot apart to put it in.

I use RAM Mounts for most of it (iPad, iPhone etc...). My ICOM aviation receiver is using a simple magnet and a small steel plate glued to the back of the receiver.

Above the rear-view mirror is:

1. Left - Garmin GDR35 Vehicle Recorder
2. Centre - President Harry II CB
3. Centre Top - Scngauge II
4. Centre Bottom - Engine Watchdog
5. Right Back - Garmin Foretrex 401
6. Right Front - Reversing Camera Screen

Depends where you're going to travel but regardless of the terrain or presence of deep water, the snorkel will help get clean air into your engine. Even in flat, hot, sandy terrain you'll be pulling air from high up with less dirt and dust in it.
