this is actually a smittybilt rack, the SRC one, and from the factory, this rack doesn't allow for the rear section of the hard top to come off, but we fabricated two half inch spacers, one for each mounting point on the rear of the rack, and no the top slides off just fine. Just have to be careful not to scratch the top sliding it off. I'll get some pictures today of the spacers for you. This is also the least expensive rack ive found. And plenty sturdy.

Can you tell me more about your tire carrier? It's on my radar but I don't have any interest in popping spot welds on the paper-thin tailgate.

What's the minimum amount of space you can put between the tire and the gate? I've got a stock carrier and am oversized spare that I'd like to pull closer into my gate. I've already got hefty hinges.

what do you mean? Like to add a bigger tire to your stock carrier? I could almost fit my 315 on the stock wheel on the stock carrier, but the brake light got in the way

My tire sits a solid 4" off of the gate with the stock carrier. I'd like to get it closer to the jeep to reduce the amount of potential shake.

Any pics from the side, a little closer up?
