It happened around here two years ago when gas got high. They drilled into several tanks that had locking caps. I don't know which would be worse: losing the gas or losing the gas and buying a new tank.

Certainly I could be wrong, but does not the JK have an anti-siphon gas filler neck, somehow it is supposed to prevent a hose from making it down to the tank to siphon fuel. Won't prevent someone from trying though.

Default My First "Mod"

I can only imagine like most newbies, the first mods I made were mods I could afford. My Rubi is parked protected at night, but I couldn't guarentee the security running around during the day or overnight at the airport. I anticipated problems with gas prices going up, so I made it an earlier priority. I looked at the locking gas cover, but settled on the $14.95 locking gas cap. I have a lock box under my seat and keep the gas key in there. Love it so far. No problems with sealing (making the engine light come on) and once a week is no biggie to dig out the key at the pump.
The stock cap and tether popped right out without damage, so I can always go back. When I can afford it or for looks, going with the locking door won't be that big a deal.

That's why we have the "Stand your ground law" in Florida. Let me find someone under my Jeep in the middle of the night on my property. A call to the police and off to jail you go.

In Nevada, if you get caught under someone's Jeep on their property in the middle of the night, chances are you will go to the morgue, not to jail.

I think you're right. Both times the fuel levels did not seem to go down which surprised me. This would verify that. But still, just the idea that they tried twice pisses me off. The other poster's comments about drilling into tanks is disturbing. Hopefully the skids will be a deterrent.

My neighbor had someone attempt to siphon gas from his F150. They busted out the anti-siphon screen.

Some dealers in my area were finding that when the gas caps/doors were locked thieves were puncturing the gas tanks from underneath. Hmmmm.
