Default fuse box fire

Just got the report from Auto Fire and Safety Consultant. The report states that the wiring of the Piaa off road lights caused the fire. He said whoever installed the lights used a low grade wire that was not protected by any sheathing. The installer ran this wire on top of a bolt and under the fuse panel and straight to the battery. The coating of the wire was rubbed off over time due to the poor wire routing. The work was performed by 4Wheel Drive Parts and am now taking this matter up with them.

Amazing the things that "professional installers" try to get away with...crap wire, lack of fuses, and relays. Seems many shops still employ monkeys and don't inspect their work before returning to customers. Sorry it happened to you, and glad it wasn't worse.

Thanks for posting the results of the investigation. It's good to know the exact cause of the fire.

My 2010 had a TIPM caused/confirmed fire last Friday. I was near houses so I disconnected the battery and put it out quickly enough before anything major happened. Interested to hear how Chrysler responds since I'm out of warranty. Dealer said it's on me - $3100 with no guarantee it won't happen again down the road.

TIPM caused/confirmed, but what who investigated, and what was the cause?

Chrysler sent inspector out and dealership said it was the cause, but didn't specify anything additional. I should know more in the next couple days.

On Dec. 31 at 4:30 PM My Wife ,Two Kids (2 & 5 years old) and I were driving down the road to get a B-day present for my Brother in-law. As we were driving I was over take by a smell of burning plastic and saw smoke coming from my hood!!!!! I pull into driveway of a video store parking lot and told the Wife to get the Kids out of the Jeep. I then proceeded to open the hood of my Jeep to my horror I saw flames coming from the Totally Integrated Power Module fuse box panel on the right side near the battery and fuel line. I then gabbed some bottles of water we had in the Jeep and tried to put out the fire but it just keep burning!!!!! Thank God my Wife went into the video store and gabbed a fire extinguisher and I put the fire out. I did a lot of research on the web and found out this is not and isolated incident.
There was a story of John Tuerk of AAS Custom Jeeps who stated that his Jeep caught fire at a Jeep Jamboree and the (TIMP) fuse box on the Jeep JK is defective and that is what caused the fire.. I talked with John and told him what happened and he stated Jeep is trying to cover up the fact that the TIMP fuse box is defective. On the bottom of the TIMP fuse box there the are a bunch of open hole which water can collect and cause the Jeep to catch fire!!!! you look at the pictures and Judge for yourself. Please be sure you carry a fire extinguisher in your Jeep !!!!!

one day last week my son was sitting in the livingroom and started hearing an alarm going off outside. He got up to check it and it was my jeep. He thought well he could start it up and it would quit. Not thinking I had the keys with me at work he walks out to crank it and realized he couldn’t. Shuts the door and started seeing smoke coming from the fuse box. Within 30 seconds (he ran to get the fire extinguisher) the whole fuse box was in flames. Luckily he thought quick and put the fire out. So my question is, is this a normal thing? Is there any recalls? I think jeep should reimburse ppl or pay to get the problems fixed

I do have to say I'm not thrilled with the guage of the wire used in these, and other cars. To have a circuit with a 20 amp fuse going through 18 guage wire is criminal, which is why anything I wire will have plenty of safety margin.
