Default 2008 JK reliability

My wife wants a 2008 JK but after reading this forum, I am very leary about the reliability of these vehicles (stall bugs, not starting, leaky roofs). She currently has a slightly lifted 2003 Tacoma doublecab that I will take over if she gets the JK. After owning several Toyotas, I have high expectations. I would probably order it because I want the 3.73 gears in case I ever want to go up slightly in tire size. So to all you JK owners, are you happy, content, or dis-satisfied with the reliability and quality of your jeep. Also if I do order one, whats the expected wait time? Any comment both good and bad would be appreciated.

One more question, what does the lifetime powertrain warranty cover? Does it cover the electronics that run the engine or just internal lubricated parts?

I have an 08 with about 10k miles. I could not be happier, no problems at all. I think most of the problems you are hearing about are in the 07's and most of those have been worked out. All new vehicles have problems that need to be worked out the first year.

If you have owned Toyotas in the past and are placing your expectations on that experience, you may be dissapointed. A Jeep is not like most other vehicles, it does not have the creature comforts, although they are better now than they ever have been.

A Jeep is much more than a new Vehicle......it is a lifestyle......it is something you either embrace or not. If you choose to go the Jeep way, it is a very rewarding way to go, one that I am very glad we chose. I have seen places and done things that others will never have the opportunity to.

I have an 08 Sahara and I am more than satisfied with it. I have never had one of those problem's you mentioned above. These JK's are very capable in stock form but I couldn't resist mods. I will be purchasing one for my wife when she turns in her tailblazer. She loves it as much as I do.

If you're leary because of what you've read on here then do yourself a favor and be leary about every other vehicle you're thinking of purchasing. All vehicles have issues when a new model is introduced with drastic changes. It's not JK thing, it's a new vehicle thing.

I don't have the slightest regret and never a moment of buyers remorse. It's the best vehicle I've owned yet.

Default warranty coverages

Hedgehog the basic 3yr/ 36000 warranty covers : air system controls, distributor and its components, electronic fuel injection system, including injectors, evaporative-emmision canister and controls, exhaust manifolds, exhaust gas recirculation valve and control system, exhaust pipes (between exhaust manifold and catalyst), fuel cap and tank assembly, pump, and fuel lines, ignition coil and ignition module, intake manifold, on-board diagnostic-system components, oxygen sensors,PCV valve and orifice, spark plugs and wires, throttle body, transmission control module, vacuum hoses, clamps and fittings, and finally vacuum, temperature, altitude, speed, time-sensitive valves, sensors and switches used in these components and systems. The catalytic converter and the powertrain control module are covered for 8yrs/ 80000 miles. The lifetime warranty covers all hard engine parts that cover any rotating parts that produce or transmit power from the front crankshaft pulley to the outer ends of the axle shafts. Not covered are clutch parts, brakes, wiper blades (soft parts). These are my words not mopars on the lifetime part- get a copy of the warranty and make your own interpretation. I bought my JK in December and have put 7000 miles in 10 weeks with not a single hiccough.... A lot of the problems listed here are by folks who are judging their jeeps by much more sophisticated auto standards. The new 4dr Unlimited has snared many people who ordinarily would never consider a wrangler. Any vehicle make or model which on any given weekend has hundreds and hundreds of young owners flogging the living HELL out of them are going to have a pretty good breakage rate. Normal to moderate operating conditions show these vehicles to be EXTREMELY reliable. 200,000+ on my first Wrangler, runs great! GO FOR IT !!!! where are you located- the CALIFORNIA warranty and some other state warranties are a little different.

I have a 2 door rubicon and my only issue has been a bad radiator hose.

The rest of this vehicle is fantastic plus I love the ESP for on road driving.

Chrysler and all the Detroit OEM's are doing a great job on quality and reliability. Toyota and Honda are no longer any different than the domestics. Also I travel a lot and get many rental cars and again I say there is no longer and quatliy differences.

If your wife wants the Jeep and you want to do some future off-roading you are getting a vehicle that can be a part of your life style as others have stated.

Right now I am in Mass, where I just left my TR8 behind as I sold it to help pay for the Jeep so I can have some fun in my old age.

I am also joining the Michigan 4x4 club so I can have some fun off roading with others.

Dude I went from a 97 4runner ltd to the Jeep. I had the same worries as you. But after a month and a half I cant wait for the Toyota to sell. I dont miss it one bit.

Go look thru the Hummer forums. Lots of reliabilty issues there too. I bet if you read the forums for any vehicle you will find issues.

I drive mine for about 6 hours everyday for work and still love it. Makes my day so much better.

When I got home from the gulf war in 1991 I bought my first brand new vehicle. A Dodge Dakota with the 3.9 V6. It was a total piece of crap. So you can bet that I was very leary about buying another Chrysler product ever again. I have to say that thus far I am very happy with my 08 Wrangler. I look forward to driving it everyday. It bounces and bucks along the road like an old chuck wagon, but I expect that, I love it in fact, it's part of what makes a Jeep a Jeep. Most importantly for me, I couldn't afford to buy an H1 and the H2 and H3 are just knock offs. I get to drive a vehicle with military lineage, and a removeable soft top. I feel like I'm 19 years old and back at Fort Hood. I'm a kid again. My Jeep has thus far been trouble free and I don't care that it doesn't ride smooth as butter like an X5. An X5 will not dare to tread the places my Jeep will go. One other thing, and this is something that I had no idea about until after I bought my Jeep, though I bet a bunch of the guys here did and it's one of those best kept secret kind of things. Chicks dig Jeeps for some strange reason. I don't know what it is. but I've had more women comment about my Jeep at the gas station or a parking lot somewhere. It's not like it's a loaded up Jeep either, it's just an X, with steelies. But they love the damn things for some reason. I know it has to be the Jeep because it sure as hell isn't me. lol
