2008 JK reliability
So, when she did a lot of research on the Jeep herself...I knew she was serious about owning a 4 door unlimited. I told her we should test out several SUV's and Jeep's to be sure she still wanted a JK. I read CR....like a bonehead I was...and saw 17 score and thinking why the heck are we looking at this thing for!!!
However, I have not turned back at all in regretting getting my wife a 08 Sahara unlimited 6spd 3:73. She is tickled pink driving it, the kids love the ride and how it TRANSFORM's into a convertible! I even enjoy driving it to go wheeling. We had a few minor issues.....leak at the B pillar fixed with a new seal, rattle in the tailgate...fixed with adjustment.
The fuel mileage has been a great suprise for us with 17.5MPG city and 22-23 MPG Highway! If you test one out with your wife.....you may as well sign your name on the line as you will be driving home a new JK for your wife.
"HAPPY WIFE = HAPPY LIFE"
I've put hundreds of thousands of miles on various Toyota products (mostly Tacomas and Corollas) in the past few decades and can't recall ever having one into the dealer for warranty work. My 07 Wrangler has been back at least ten times in the 15,000 miles that I've owned it. As a matter of fact, its back to the dealer today (transmission/tc shudder, oil pan gasket leak, intake manifold gasket leak). I love my Jeep because it will do things that no other vehicle on the planet will do, is an amazing good time to drive and frankly, I can't imagine not having it, but go into the experience with your eyes wide open. If you expect Toyota quality (as defined by their reputation not necessarily current standards), you might be initially disappointed. No offense to anyone on the board, but there are a lot of guys here who would tolerate virtually anything and still tell you that the Jeep is the greatest thing since sliced bread, or that "it's a Jeep thing, you just don't understand". Good luck.
Mine is one with issues and I am dealing with lemon law right now. In CT you have the option to get all your payments back or get a new one. I'm getting a new one.
Don't be afraid if it really has problems the government will help you out, I love my Jeep.

Wow...comparing camrys to jeeps, never thought i'd see that one. But hey i learn something new everday. Umm...what. A camry to a wrangler. That has to be the worst comparison ive ever seen. Of course a camry is going to drive smother and quiter, its a CAR and its a economy car, and a toyota at that. Why are you comparing them. You have to be a certain breed to own a wrangler, and yes I do agree alot of it is a "Jeep thing."
the thread starter mentioned reliability and my point is that if you want superior reliability, comfort, and just plain normalcy.......then the jeep isn't the vehicle for you.
...my bad.
4+ months, over 7500 miles and the only time I've been back to the dealer was to pick up some soft top window cleaner, otherwise absolutely zero problems. As many have said, it's a Way of Life, not just a vehicle. over the life of the vehicle, sure it will probably have more porblems than most vehicles, but then again most vehicles are not doing the same things as Jeeps.
maybe my point was not clear, but thanks for the insults. i am not comparing jeeps to camrys.

I could hardly read two words, before pausing, re-tracing my steps, and beginning over again, only to conclude that it still made no sense and he was re-hashing his/her, previous points (?).
I have had no trouble myself with our 07 or our 08 Unlimited. I would be another if i was looking for a new vehicle. The only thing that would make me replace my Rubi is if Jeep came out with a V8 powered wrangler unlimited.
To the original poster.. Don't ever use an internet message board for any kind of decision like this. People use the internet to complain and somehow feel that by their venting online it will somehow make everything better. Very few people use the internet to tell the world how great something is. Always assume a message board is full of 95% complaints, because they usually are
Anyway for me personally, I haven't gotten my JK yet, but I will be in a month or so. I've flip-flopped between the JK and the FJ cruiser so many times. I liked driving them both and since I don't expect to do any kind of extereme offroading both will suit my needs just fine (unless you call driving on a beach to go fishing extreme) but in the end I think the JK just has all of the options I want, and I want people to wave at me when I drive places
I also tried out a ford explorer, it was really comfy inside and had leather everything, and the talking sync radio was really cool, but I don't need all those bells & whistles
Sure there's trucks with more power, less road noise, and whatever else, but nothing can come close to the whole Jeep "legacy" thing.
I also think, in this day and age, sure there's some cars that are more reliable than others in general, but I feel if you really take care of it, do your maintenance on time, etc, almost any car will last a long time. Just find something you love to drive and take good care of it, and it should take good care of you
