I just drove a 2012 Rubi Unlimited at my local dealer today. I walked away very impressed. I have owned two JK's, a 2007 2 door with 6-speed and 4.10's. Had 32, 33, and 35" tires on it. Plus a 2008 JKU with 3.73's and the 6-speed and 35's. The dealer's test loop took me onto the highway, and I stomped on the gas (automatic). The difference is night and day from the 3.8L, especially when you get in the mid-range RPMs.

I am convinced, and getting ready to order a 2012 2-door with the new automatic trans and tow package. The addiction will be starting again in a few months. Before anyone says it was different because of tires/gearing, I did drive both my 6-speed JK's with 32" tires for a while before I upgraded so I know how they drive.

As soon as a magazine gets ahold of one your going to see a couple second knocked off both 0-60 and .25mile acceleration runs as well as big improvements in top gear acceleration.
I just want to point out that this turned out to be completely true, based on all magazine reviews thus far.

Also, asking for the 6speed to 6speed test? What does it matter? The new engine gets a new auto tranny, which is also better... so the only way you would take the comparisons of an auto are if they had the 3.8 tranny and gearing? Give me a break. Even so, the 6 vs 6 tests have been proven by the mags to have roughly the same result as well.

New Jeep engine, same Jeeper bias against anything new and anyone buying new.

Well I finally drove a 2012 and I must say that I was impressed..

I drove a 2012 4dr Rubicon and then a 2011 4dr Rubicon.. Both autos, both 4.10 gears..

The 2012 felt good, shifted well, and had a strong pull all the way up to highway speeds. It did sound pretty good also.

The 2011 felt ok up to about 40mph.. It was a little bit slower to 40, but not too bad... After 40mph the 2011 fell on its face.. There was a huge, very obvious, difference.

Up to 40mph the 11 doesnt do to bad but after 40mph the 12 will run away from it. Just my two cents...

Why so much hating by the 2011 and earlier jeep owners???

No need to try and convince anyone that buying a left over 2011 will save a bunch of money over a 2012. Thats a No Brainer. Every year end, you get better deals on left overs. This year is no different.

Why not be happy for your new Jeeper Brothers who are buying the 2012's??
They have essentially the same jeep as you do, its just faster!
So what..... Right?? You dont need no stinking acceleration from 0-60 or 0-80.. Cuz its a Jeep!

Theres no need to come on all the 2012 posts and try and convince people that the 2012's are all hype, and not worth the "extra" money.. (read that the 2011's are on year end blowout sales)

It sounds like most of the bashing is comming from people who havn't even test driven one... That makes no sense to me.. Bash a product that you havnt even seen or drove... Are you hating out of jealousy? Maybe deep down you know how much better the 2012 is vs the other jk's and the one you own..
All the rationalization of, running lower gears on the 3.8 or a supercharger to get the same performance..

Me.... I want to give Kudos to those that stepped up and purchased a 2012.
They have the best of both worlds right off the dealer lot. Power AND offroad capability... Something that cant be said for the older JK's

Chasin Tail, I agree with everything you said. I am a new Jeep owner (bought a 2011 earlier this year) and I am amazed at the childishness of this debate. That said, you gatta admit that the hating isn't in just one direction. There are lots of unnecessary digs of 2012 owners at pre-2012 JK's.

Read "Bought a 2012 yesterday and its performance compared to the 3.8 is like comparing a 50cc moped with 1000 cc sport bike. I feel bad for you 3.8 owners"

That kind of statement will only escalates the volume of hate posts in the reverse direction. It is impossible to say where this all started or who threw the first blow, but it is ridiculous. I LOVE my 2011 Jeep JKU Rubicon. I have become a big fan of the brand, the fanaticism that surrounds the Wrangler, and the lifestyle that comes with owning this vehicle. I have driven the new 2012 and agree that it is a huge improvement. I am considering trading my 2011 on a 2012. It is THAT good. Whether or not I do, I win. I own Jeep, one of the most fun vehicles I have ever owned by far.

IMO, you starting a thread offering to drag race your 2012 against previous year JK's will probably not help anyone chill. Will just be another 20 page wasted thread. Just sayin.

yankee..

I started that one to be a joke... I guess the sarcasm doesnt translate thru the keyboard too well... Based off of the responses anyways..

I just dont get why so many people want to hate on the 12' guys who are trying to tell everyone that Jeep may have finally come around and put out a decent total package for the consumer. All the JK's are great offroad. Now they are finally addressing the Anemic 3.8 and even worse 4 speed auto, and guys buying the 2012's are comming here and letting everyone know about it.. I dont get where the negativity comes from...

Looking at your avitar pic, I guess you werent too pleased with the stock 3.8L either

True. But I knew that when I test drove it, back in 07. And planned accordingly.
