2012 is basically just an interior upgrade

Yeah when I was on the highway u could feel a bit more power but "it's a jeep" screw the highway!!! My 2010 auto with 5.13's felt the same as the 2012 around town. What a unbelievable disappointment!!! Now if u put larger tires on u r back to the same dogging as before!!!!

Now as to when I did feel a different was when I drive a 2012 2door bone stock and manual. Grant it the jeep had the smallest wheels possible and it was lighter but this was when u could really feel it just wanting to take off an when u did u could hear a different engine. Here is the problem, I want 4door and even though I enjoy manual i have driven it my whole life that now I enjoy auto.

BASICALLY, 4dr auto was a huge disappointment! And the 2dr manual with tinnie tiny none jeep looking wheels felt good.

I leave u with this.......NOTHING!! Once again I really wanted to upgrade to the 2012 but in my opinion not with it!!! I hate saying that cause I was a big fan of it coming out. All I will feel that changed is the interior and to me it's not worth it!

I guess i will be supercharging

All of u that r on the fence with having to pick between a 2011 DEAL or a 2012. I would heavily recommend save the cash and get the 2011 deal. Just regear it cause I WILL have to anyways with the 2012 and/or supercharge it. With the saved cash u can have more HP at the rear wheel with a RIPP supercharge 2011 then with a 3.6L 2012
We will be taking delivery of our 2012 is mid September - and you bet your axe's its hitting the DYNO immediately. We project 180-/+hp on stock wheels based on the accrued drive-train loss data from the 3.8. But that could change because of the transmission, it could be more efficient and have less loss - We are however expecting a more linear torque curve based on the variable valve timing thou.

It will be interesting to see -

Great report

The results will be that the Pentastar will stomp a mudhole in the old motor. The new motor makes more torque and makes it over a wider ranger than the 3.8. The 3.6 is a lighter motor with 80 more horsepower, add to that lighter engine internals to rev faster and more freely and it's not a competition. It's simple physics. As soon as a magazine gets ahold of one your going to see a couple second knocked off both 0-60 and .25mile acceleration runs as well as big improvements in top gear acceleration.

What the damn sad thing is that when u get in a 2012 u don't get BLOWN AWAY! As much as we have cried for a better engine and as loyal as we have been to crystler this is just ridiculous. They bumped up the power a bit to say they did but at the end of they day we beat our jeeps harder and more regularly then most people do to their trucks. Yet many trucks have bad ass engines in them.

Don't say well then go and buy a truck cause it's a Jeep I want from factory with a damn AWESOME engine!!!

Also why the "F" would a cherokee have a Hemi and not a JEEP!!! I can't do crap about it cause they will do what they want cause we will continue to buy. WHATEVER......

Because the Cherokee competes with other 4x4's that will likely never see anything but pavement.

The Cherokee line lost its off road prowess when they started the IFS bull crap. At that point it had become just any other SUV in my eyes. My parents have two of them, they are terrible for anything but street driving.

There are regulatory stipulations for the JK not to go past a certain power to rate ratio - if you notice the engine went down in displacement and up in power keeping the "formula" for the IIHS consistent. If it comes from the manufacturer with a larger or more powerful engine it will not remain a "Jeep" in the purest sense. For example the tops and doors may not be able to come off... Essentially you get a Durango INSTEAD OF THE Wrangler... this was passed along to us by a Jeep employee on the aftermarket side - explaining why it would be hard to get an aftermarket power-adder in the Mopar catalog But then again who knows they may have turned down our kit to make it compliant (boring) like the Toyota TRD blowers, hardly worth the $6k for barely 60hp gain.

I have a 08 JKU Rubicon. I been there and done that. Superchip, supercharged, 5.38 gearing and the 3.8 is still a pig. I test drive the new 2012 JKU with 3.21 gearing and I have to say I was very impress it is what the JK needs. The 3.6 is very smooth. On the Highway is where the 3.6 is going to shine. That is what I'm look for.

The 3.8 drives me crazy going up hills and it is away searching for gears because it don't have the power it needs.

With that I will end up getting a new JKU Rubicon with the new 3.6 in the near future...

I already feel bad for the people who were oh so excited to get their pentastars. But maybe this time Juan and Miguel are better trained and more properly motivated by the cartel wars, so pentastars will probably be just fine.

I'll have to read this at home (on iPhone) but I traded my 2010 islander for a new 2012 sport with all the options and I couldn't be happier. I love the interior and the extra hp is just another thing I like. I felt an can hear the difference. I normally dump my money into my 03 cobra so I don't plan on modding the crap out of it, maybe 35's and a lift.
