2012 is basically just an interior upgrade

So basically we sit 2 tenths of a second slower than a 99 TJ, that has the 4.0 people still rave about. On a race track that is a mile, on the street that isnt noticeable.

I've decided its probably all in the gearing, from the tranny back.

Yes but it was for those who have the 2007-2010.

Great point! Many people have no clue the exaggerated affects high altitude has on weak engines here at 6000' and then you drive over 7% grades at 11,000' on I-70 and are getting passed by semi's. That is why I waited for the Pentastar and will probably turbo it down the road.

In fact, a normally aspirated motor loses 3% of its power for every 1,000' above sea level. That means that a Pentastar at the Eisenhower Pass is still making more power than a 3.8 at the beach.

I'm in the Market for a Jeep, Looking at Unlimiteds

2008/9 - around 18k S model - Cheaper(you get what you pay for), solid tested platform
^^^MODS MODS MODS
2011 - 24kish, once again solid tested platform with a new nice interior that doesn't look cheap
^^^The new interior is really tempting since it's for me, I'd be staring at it daily, maybe worth the 6k

2012 - close or above 30k---new engine, new problems, but* possibly new engine, no problems
eh...now i'm just being arrogant and greedy wanting wanting wanting...but i Do aLOT of hwy driving...so I don't know..

going from 18k to 30 is a huge jump though.... I'm more confortable with 18k to 24k

I have a 2012 6speed, I also test drove a 2011 6speed, both were 2 doors with the tow package (3.73's or whatever) The 2011 was much much slower and less responsive, was constantly shifting into a lower gear just to merge or pass cars, it was a utter pain. The 2012 is great, satisfying to drive, always brings a smile to my face, the 2011? not so much... the OP of this thread may have been a little bit off. No worries though.

Did you get a good deal? I'm buying tomorrow!

Well my 2011 Rubicon with it's asthmatic 3.8L blew away my old 2003 TJ with that 4.0L inline six but it can't begin to compare to my 2012 Rubicon with the Pentastar. It probably takes a little more than a test drive to figure that out.

There is no comparison between the two. You're talking almost a 50% increase in HP difference between the 3.8L and the 3.6L Pentastar, plus better fuel economy on top of that. So there's a reason why Jeep is offering 0% on the 2011's plus a reason they weren't evening telling that the 2012's were being shipped because they want (need) to figure out how to unload the remainder of the 2011's first.
