Default 2012 Diesel Wrangler and manual transmission

Allpar is already stating that: "A Fiat diesel is reportedly being tested by Siemens for US certification in the 2012 Wrangler"

I have every part of my body crossed in hopes that they will offer a manual transmission with the diesel, then read the recent test on Allpar about the new manual transmission Challenger R/T, which puts out 376HP and 410 torque - plenty to handle a Wrangler diesel. Hopefully, this will allow Jeep to certify at lower cost, spread across models.

And yes, Mike Manley - I would pay more for the diesel AND manual.

Folks - get those phones ringing at jeep HQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From Allpar:
"Our test model had the optional, extra-cost six-speed manual transmission. The gearshift requires more effort than lighter-duty transmissions, and the clutch is heavy, but you can shift smoothly and lightly with some practice.

That would indeed be great news in Wranglerville. A Fiat diesel, huh? So we'll have the descendant of an American military vehicle used to defeat the Italians and Germans running and Italian engine and using German engineering. The wonders of globalization...

Won't get my hopes up....until I actually see a Diesel Wrangler on the dealership lot... With the chances of a diesel Wrangler in NA what comes to mind is slim to none ...my bet NO Chance.

The UK jeep is 99% diesel, and a few 2 door Rubicons with V6 petrol, i hope the fiat diesel is smoother than the VM, it does its job, but sounds like a 4 pot tractor, not nice.

I'd pay attention to how well the volkswagen TDI sells. If it takes off like gangbusters, then we may see more diesels in NA. Otherwise, I doubt it--with a manual transmission, even more unlikely.

When I had my KJ, I wheeled at the Killington Jamboree (which is next weekend, BTW!!!! ) with a KJ Diesel. That thing had gobs of torque, was quiet, and he got 36MPG on his 5 hour drive to the event!!!

TDI is sold out pretty much all the time. Germany will not allocate more engines here because they make so much more on the m in Europe ( I have a newer VW as well).

RUBICONTRAIL - Fiat is in final testing of an all new 3.0 Litre V6 with latest common rail AND MultiAir, which will keep NOx down without expensive after treatment - the reason for the diesel delay to date. Nobody else has anything equivalent to MultiAir yet on diesels. VW won't come close until 2014.

Also, a turbo motor, diesel or gas, would be great for those who use their Wranglers at higher altitude - no power loss due to atmospheric compensation.

Wrangler with new Fiat diesel & manual transmission - sign me up!!!!
