2012 Diesel Wrangler and manual transmission
That's why Ferrari engines are so crappy and suck so bad!
I have an Italian Aprilia scooter that I rode from Florida to California and back and never missed a beat, I sold it and still have another one with 14,000 reliable miles.
Italians know so little about everything that they could buy a bankrupt Chrysler...

Ok, done venting. Put me on the waiting list for a diesel Wrangler.
WHAT?
Really?

Sorry "acquired". True, nobody but the government would actually pay real money or invest in Chrysler.
You should know better by now!

Sorry to go off topic but couldn't let this one go. Fiat didn't "buy" Chrysler. Obama brokered the deal to give it to them along with the UAW. I believe that the exact wording was "Fiat will contribute intelectual capital" and that Fiat has gone on record that it will not infuse cash into Chrysler to keep it afloat during the reorganization. If this is the new definition of buy, I think I'm smart enough to turn a bankrupt company around so waiting on the call from our president.

Who cares about all the Italian bashing? I opened this thread hoping to read more about a Wrangler diesel! I've been waiting years for one and last year finally broke down and got a JK Rubi without because I was sick of waiting. That and I was told the Audi A3 TDi I had been short-listed for wasn't going to be offered as a Quattro in the US.
Big THANKS to the OP for the Allpar article. Every few weeks I get the bug up my ass to search for more Jeep Diesel info and it's so hard to come by, not to mention it's almost always hearsay for the US market. I'll cross every part of my body and wait for one too (but I won't be holding my breath, or that pose for too long)...

You are correct - there has been a lot of hot air to date. This is real progress. 2012 model is a major retool - not just interior facelift. New powertrains, probably more sound deadening, etc. Also will move the whole line over to Fiat's new, much improved manufacturing process for better quality.
Just hope the same manual tranny that is in the new Challenger makes it to the Wrangler.
I'm waiting for 2012 - patience everyone.
I will be calling my dealership the minute It's confirmed. a Diesel wrangler unlimited would be amazing! I can only image going on a road trip and gettin 25+mpg.. Maybe even 30mpg! that would be great
Also, it cost almost $4k compared to $1,700 for the NV3550 currently in the JK.
I highly doubt they will design a specific 4wd high performance transmission for (now that I think about this) what seems to be the last 4wd civilian vehicle with an available manual transmission.
I think we will see a beefed up NV3550 in the future.
You mean the Tremec T6060? I believe that tranny is in the Viper, GT500 Mustang, Challenger, Camaro and Corvette (in rear mount applications). I don't think it is designed for 4wd applications.

If Fiat drops the upcoming MultiAir 3.0 liter V6 diesel in the Wrangler, it would most likely come in between 370 and (maybe in our dreams) 415 LB/FT of torque. Wonder what 6-speed in the current Chrysler bin can handle that?
Not sure this an accurate cost estimate, but the 6-speed in the Challenger is a $800+ option, including heavier duty brakes and upgraded steering pump. Not sure if the extra is rolled in elsewhere, or the $4k you quoted is retail......
