Default Is the 2012 worth it

Need an opinion, I had a 09 JKU and sold it because the motor was terrible. No power at all especially after bumpers winch ect...

I am hearing mixed reviews on the new 3.6 and was wondering if anyone can chime in and give me some honest feedback on the 2012s.

I miss everything about my Jk except the motor and now it seems there might be a reason to get another one. Or maybe I can modify the 3.6 to my liking?

Thanks

If you felt the power was so bad you would have preferred no JK over the one you had; I doubt you will be satisfied with it.

Test drives are helpful.

Wink

I'll say the only thing I didn't like about my 08 Jeep was the 3.8 auto. Had 4.10s.

I love the 3.6 auto. It has the 3.73s, and is amazing.

The interior was a nice change too. Heated seats, power mirrors...pinch me I'm dreaming.

Agreed. Jeeps aren't highway powerful vehicles. They excel where the pavement ends; that's even been their heritage since WWII -- being the slow vehicle that can go where no others can and always get the job done. Putting my pride aside, the new models have an engine with more horsepower, torque and better gas mileage, granted all of that can change once you add the tires, lift, armor, etc.

In general, regearing will help your JK with power loss when upgrading. If you still don't like the power than you have two options: No JK, or purchase an engine modification like a RIPP Supercharger or HEMI.

I am extremely happy with my '12 JKU Rubicon. I traded a 2010 JKU Sport auto. I have 4.10 gearing and probably should have stuck with 3.73 to help a little with gas consumption.

I absolutely love my 2012!

But nobody can tell you whether you'll like it. Go for a test drive or find someone with '12 you can drive.

I recently purchased a 2012 sahara unlimited with the auto and 3.73 gears. I 've been happy with it but I went from a 92 yj with the wonderful 2.5 liter. So to get some ideas on it's performance I let my friend take it for a spin. He owns an 08 Rubicon 4 door. Heavy steel bumpers winch and 35 inch tires and suspension lift. He said if he hadn't spent all that money upgrading his rubi he wouldn't think twice about trading it in for a 2012.
