Is the 2012 worth it
I'm 46 years old ... Been owning & driving Jeeps since 30 years ...
Had CJs ... YJs ... Driven JKs with 3.8 .... And Now own a 2012 JKU (3.6 auto & 3.73 ratio) ... I still can't get over it .
I simply adore it . All I can say is " MAMMA MIA" ....

All vehicles have odd noises that neither you nor I can diagnose. Most are harmless. If it grenades during the warranty period, it grenades. The likely solution then is simply a new engine(which will usually be an updated version) under warranty. The techs at most dealerships can easily install without screwing it up, unless their name is Goober.
I'm waiting on the 13's, most issues should be resolved by then. If there are real issues, be sure that Chrysler will not let them last long on their bread and butter vehicle.
Relax and enjoy.
I went from my beloved '06 LJ Rubi with the 4.0 to the 2012 2 door Rubi. The new jeep is head and shoulders above the earlier Jeep. Oodles (yes, it's a technical term) of power on tap for the roads and no discernible difference off pavement from my perspective. Go test drive one and make sure you have your checkbook with you
4th or 5th post in the thread poo-pooing on the '12 yet with no experience cited.
Okay, thanks. You don't like the new stuff. Thanks.
Note the original poster doesn't have a JK any more. No matter what he does he will have to buy a JK from the get go...

I love my 08, I have driven slow cars(VW busses) and think it is pretty fun trying to hustle a slow car and maintain momentum to keep up. That said, I would get a 12-13 Jeep in a minute if I wasn't so emotionally attached to the 08 (and my wife would probably want to kill me). The 12's are the cat's meow.
For now I am sticking with my superchipped 08, its a lot faster than my 78 bus...

Trying to get the dealer service department to care as much as you do....is futile.

Back to the O.P.
Like I stated I'm not a fan of the open deck design of the block with four bolt clamping per cylinder, casting's move around until they take a set, what holds the top of the cylinder bore in place a head gasket !
Keep it simple and short, ask yourself
Do you think Chrysler will ever offer the limited life time warranty (gimmick) again, even thou it is in writing
Do you think the pentastar-engine power plant will go 300,000 miles with out extensive cost to the owner, a young family man living on a budget.
I'm not Jeep bashing, in fact I hope the young engineer reads this, there is more to life than whistle and bell's
and knowing what they have to put up with, bean counter's profit margins and Government Mandates. It's a tuff obstacle but it can be done.
