2wd jk?????
I love how most of you guys talk shit on 2wd , even when off roading , you don't use 4wd as much , unless you are rock crawling or on a serious trail , now with that said , I have a 2wd , with 4.10 gears and LSD , and that damn thing has taking me every where I wanted to go , but I do see I need to upgrade it a little better , so now I am going 5.38 , with a eaton elocker in the rear

In my opinion it thats the same thing as buying a 4cyl Corvette
....just doesnt make sense. If it works for what you are doing that's great but I think it's inevitable that once you start doing some more trails you will want to do some more challenging stuff and when you do.....you will wish you had 4wd and you will either have to put it in...or buy another vehicle. Most of the time when we go wheeling we are always in 4-Lo. It gives you better control with the low end torque and you do less damage to the trails as their is less wheel spin. "Tread Lightly" we don't have a tonne of trails up here so we have to respectful of what we have so we don't lose them. Luckily we have a gracious landowner up here that has 1000 acres and has allowed us to cut all kinds of trails and host different events. Not many public trails.
Again, if it works for you now.....great....but it's only a matter of time and your eyes will be opened like Neo and the Matrix

2 wheel jk's are all rhd postal jeeps
jku your choice of 2 or 4 wheel drive
buy new if you shop for your best deal and figure in the sloooooow
deprecition it will be affordable when i traded my 2010 i lost about 3500
not bad considering some bumper damage
looked at dlrs website later that week advertised price 1 k higher than i paid a year earlier
make your purchase a business like decision then get emotions involved once its in your drive
(i am gonna have to reread my advice next time i trade)
dont forget to get all incentives available my son in law works (loose term) for chrysler so i get employee pricing
some with good negotiating skills come out even better
good shopping and better 4 wheel jeeping
brianj

I like how people always relate a jeep to a corvette , way different things , you might as well say jeep is like a Lamborghini , anyways if your want to compare , let's take a mustang , they been around for a while , and they have used all different kinds of engines in them , but do you think that if the mustang ony came one way it will still be around , the same with wrangler , when it was a 2dr , it sold , but when the 4dr came upon up another group of buyers , and they they made a 2wd to Appel to another group of buyers , so with them trying different things to keep jeep alive has worked , so be glad that there are people buying it now , where I live I see a lot of 2wd jk , but I live in socal , If I lived in the east I wouldn't buy a 2wd , but I don't , so I brought my jeep for my life style and my life style does not include rock crawling , now going out in the fire trails and mountain roads to go shooting that does , so I didn't need a 4wd , so way buy one , I ask all my friends that I hang around with that have 4x4 anything , and all of them either never used it or once a year kinda of thing , so why get a 4x4 , to not use it and pay maintenance on it , when I did get my jeep , I made sure to get one with a LSD in it , now I am getting a elocker for the rear , and you can do quite a bit with a lock rear

We bought the wrangler because it was a 4wd vehicle. My wife drives the crap roads in my town, and often used 4wd in the winter. If the OP can afford the 2012, go for it. New engine with way better power and a warranty to boot.
Do whats best for you.
Do whats best for you.
My first jku was 2wd loved the thing. Traded it for a 2011 4wd jku basically for the 4wd. Went on a 2 1/2 hour drive(1 way) and thought my 2wd drove so much better and felt like it had more power. Then almost home (5 hrs in the jeep) thinking I Shouldve really kept my 2wd the phone rings. My youngest brother calls me and says he's stuck hooked to a carhauler up against a tree and could I pull him out.
So long story short 4wd for now on, no question!
