I still need to relocate my third brake light so it is more visible.....that being said I don't understand why you wouldn't want an extra brake light showing the dope behing you that your slowing down. I could never understand why guys "tint" there taillights. Sure it looks good but the light output is significantly decreased and in turn is less visible to other motorists. Why run that risk?
Same goes with "headlight covers", they were much more popular in the '90's but I still see some on cars and trucks today. Cover your headlights??? Really??

With my luck I'd get the one cop that needs to fill his monthly requirement. And I'd have had a wee bit too much to drink

My led strips are at eye level to most cars who would be riding my @ss. Yes, I know it is officially called the CHMSL, center high mounted stop lamp, but both the inspection people and cops in my area say mine meet the requirement. The short of it is, if you have a lamp that is separate from the two other brake lamps and can be seen by someone riding your @ss, you're good.

I think another reason for the CHMSL is to have a separate lamp that is easily distinguishable from your running lamps when you have your headlamps on.

My new 12' JK is the first Jeep that still has it's 3rd brakelight...I think some are overreacting about it honestly. On my last TJ Rubi...the thing was chopped off when I added my Jeeperman tire carrier, and the spare 35.

Alec makes a great point. I want the additional view out the back that the 3rd light takes away. And Houston drivers suck so they need all the "heads up" they can get. I'm gonna buy the rear tire third light from eBay. Thanks. That's why I love these forums!!!

Very simple mod and the LED was cheap. I used the OEM wiring as my tire carrier swings with my gate. I did however drive around for months with no 3rd lite with no harassment here in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia.

This is what I did with my third brake light when I got bigger tires. I just cut the extender arm down and cut the arm from the light and remounted the light lower as you can. And it cost nothing.
