Default 4.10 to 3.73, what a difference

I just traded in my 07 2 door X with the 4.10 gear option and have been driving my 08 Sahara Unlimited with the max option gear of 3.73 for a week and am defiantly disappointed that they changed the optional gear. I know that the computer hasn't run through the break in period, but I have been able to tell a huge difference in performance from the first time I test drove it. With the 4.10's, I could easily roll from a stop sign in second, it is a lot harder to do with the 3.73's. I am at a loss of whether to swap out the gears due to the life time power train warranty, so I might just have to get use to it. But, I keep asking myself why would Jeep change from 4.10 the option to the 3.73's on an off road vehicle. I am still more than happy with the Jeep and the extra room of the Unlimited is great (having a kid in March).

1. Is it possible to "get use to it"?

2. I suspect the reason has to do with CAFE standards. I'm not saying that CAFE is all bad (uh-oh, liberal alert!), but they certainly are responsible for much of the nonsense with the push on V6 and smaller engines and, I suspect, too tall rear ends.

I will get use to it, it is just amazing how big of a difference it made. Before I was able to drive down a road at 30 in 5th and still had the ability to pull more speed if needed and now it barely chugs along at 1,100 rpm and has no pull. On ramps are also another place I notice it, I was able to get up to speed in 6th and need fifth now. I am totally happy with the new Jeep and know for a fact it is not a race car, slow and steady.

going from a 2 door to a 4 door also...gonna be a little heavier. Might not be much, but that coupled with the higher gear would make it feel wussier.

I agree, I was just reading 1badjk's dyno thread and will probably start with the custom exhaust and intake (chip later on down the road) which will probably get me back up to where I was in the two door. And if not, atleast it will sound faster!

The 3.73's dont seem so bad in the TJ but that engined seemed a little torqueier (Is that a word?) at take off.

That and I think even the 2 door JK is heavier than the TJ, much less the Unlimited. And like Mark said, in another four months, I wont even remember driving the two door JK.

I wonder if there are dealers that would install a 4.10 gear without voiding the warranty.

If if you did it yourself if a dealer could even point out it was opened....

When you change your dif fluids (properly) it will be opened also. or if you put on a different cover, etc. I don't think that would be an issue.
