My dealer too just gave me 8 digits for my vin today. Should it not be 17 digits as some people are reporting here? Could someone please clarify what this might mean?

 

there also is a "VON" which is a vehicle order number....but going off what Spud listed that is the last half of his VIN because of the 7L which is in the VIN

 

I have a 2 door, Jeep Green Sahara 6 speed, dual top, power convience, etc. When did you place your order? Your quick delivery (28 days) is giving me some hope.

 

The dealer just uses the last eight numbers to look things up. He will have the whole number if you want it, just call him and ask. I am not sure if the rest of the numbers will tell you anything or not. I am sure they mean something in the manufacturing process. Waiting for someone to post the codes, but it's probably things you already know, automatic, paint color, model, etc.

 

Mine is being built as I type this, and will be shipped on Tuesday Nov 14.

congrats !! man it must be the 4 door thing holding mine up ?? I'm going crazy maby I'll call my dealer today but I just read a post by Don A Vee that today is a holiday for the factory so prob no change for me since I checked last time.... :(

 

jpaddict, when did yours go D1, mine went on 11/8. I know we are close together. I don't have a ship date yet, I'll probably get it this week. Are you getting a 2dr or 4dr?

 

Here is a sample JK VIN: 1J4FA24167L125898

Digit 1 = Country of Origin (1= United States)
Digit 2 = Manufacturer (J = Jeep)
Digit 3-8 = Model Codes which vary by vehicle options/build
Digit 9 = Verifying Digit (Any quesses?)
Digit 10 = Year (7=2007)
Digit 11 = Manufacturer Assembly Plant (L= Toledo I)
Digit 12-17 = Vehicle Numerical Sequence

 

just got the call, my jeep 2dr is in . i probably won't be able to pick it up until tomorrow night which is killing me :sad: . it only took a month and 1 day from order to arrival. i was anticipating 8-10 wks by what the dealer said, but it was less than 5.

 

Jeff, you and Eddie are the only ones really working while you are playing on the forums. I wonder how much money the rest of us cost our companies. Well for me I am self employed so it just extends my work day a little. I notice I get the most replies to my post on Monday mornings.
