Default Dash Board Abyss

So it happened, my very expensive magnetized sunglases fell in the gap between the windshield and the dash.......and I was almost tempted to end my weekend by trying to take appart the dash and panels in the body so I can fold the windshield, but instead decided to check if anyone here has done it and found their lost items...I know someone placed a piece of pipe insulation there so that wouldn't happen to them and I was about to do this but of course...., the Gods rained on me...

So has anyone here has been able to recuperate their lost items or can they guide me to thread that has dealt with this issue, I did a search and came up empty...thanks...

The rubber "bumper" on the winshield mount clip located on the soft top, popped off and fell back there on me once not that long ago. I went to Pep-Boys and bought one of those mechanical fingers for about $4. It got the rubber piece out, but it was kind of a pain. I had my wife standing on the outside, leaning over the hood, with a flashlight shinning down through the windshield to light up behind the dash. I pushed the top back, and stood up on the passenger side of the Jeep. Leaning over the windshield, looking through the glass so I could see behind the dash, but keeping my arms on the inside to use the mechanical fingers, I was able to grab it. It was a pain, and took about 10 min of fumbling around, but I figured it was easier than putting the windshied down. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I was able to move the clips with a coat hanger but after a while it dissapeared from site...so I'm curious if indeed I need to deal with the windshield or the plastic parts from the dashboard...I'm not sure which way to go...

I'm not sure what to tell you if you can't even see it. I noticed that on the passenger side of the dash, behind the glovebox is an area that is enclosed by metal. Behind it is different hoses and what looks like relays. From what I could tell, you can't get behind this metal area from the front...you have to get to it from behind the dash. You might be able to pull the dash out some by losening certain fasteners, but I am not sure since I have not done that before. I might suggest to first spend some time looking through the windshield with a flashlight pointed down behind the dash and see if you might be able to see where your glasses actually fell to. That way, you could better decide how to get to them. Maybe others will chime in on actually getting behind the dash. Let us know the outcome if you have to get behind there, and take pics. I know there has been posts about this before. That gap between the dash and windshield gets hungry sometimes.

Simple solution for that is to get a pinch weld seam seal such as a hood cowl seal. I used one from a Chevelle and trimmed it to fit.

Did you try lowering the windshield? If you lower the windshield you will open up the gap between the dash & the firewall.
