Getting ready to buy
If you are trading a vehicle it makes no difference how much they sell you the new one for.
What matters is MONEY DIFFERENCE!!
Get it into your head, the number that you want to be at before you start to haggle with them.
In other words if you are trading a car worth $5000, and you are buying a $25,000 Jeep. Your money difference is $20,000. Figure out where you need to be at Money Difference wise.
Then if they want to charge you $30,000 for the same vehicle, they can, they just have to give you $10,000 for your trade.
Make them crunch the numbers on the profit they are going to lose by making you a good deal. They are going to make your first three payments back by selling you a loan, plus volume stair step bonuses.
After you get them down to invoice price, then spring the money difference on them that is $1000 less that you are willing to settle for... then make the concession on that $1000 if you have to... make them feel like they are winning!!

If you find there is only one Jeep that matches your wish list, I would be careful about emailing all the dealers because word will get out that you really want that Jeep and the dealer who has it will hold onto it and try to get his price. The dealers know you are shopping but you don't want to give them the upper hand.
Wow, thanks for all the responses. Actually, I work for an RV dealership (not sales-I'm still human), so the negotiation part should be ok. I was curious if they were still going for invoice and above like they were when they first came out. Looks like there's some wiggle room now. I'm thinking I should start out at least at 1k back of invoice as listed on jktoolz. The tough part is going to be having to swallow how little my WJ is worth anymore.
Not to hijack my own thread, but I'm assuming I don't want to skip the Infinity sound option and the limited slip, right? I'm planning on hardtop with tow package, auto, and power/conveniece group for sure, everything else including color is negotiable so I think I shold be able to do ok. Wish me luck...

wapiti.
The limited slip differential (Trac Lock) was just about the only feature I insisted on.
Everything else I was flexible with. However in my case, one with the LSD could not be had
so they had to order it.
