Cool Hardtop owners - Leak Check

Hello to all:

Just wanted to help looking out for all the fellow members on here, Figure I would return the favor for those who helped me out many times.

A lot of states got hit with a lot of very heavy rain including the east coast where I am located in VT. Just looking out for the members on here who are not aware, check you driver / passenger side foot wells under the carpet for water, most likely you will have some moisture or ponding, Had to let the water out this morning , using the floor drain plugs. This is one reason why I never re-installed the factory carpet back. I can not keep the plugs out due to the field mice , that will enter the vehicle overnight and nest ..I bought a roll of heavy duty rubber matting from Home Depot and made custom cutouts and they are easy to remove to check for this on-going issue. Some people got lucky with certain fixes, my Jeep seems to she needs to collect rain water and hold it for me...lol.. If left uncheck, years to come, you will have the Fred Flintsone option, " You feet touching the ground." due to corrision of the floor pannels. ..lol

It is going to be a blast of a winter, imagine this happening then the temperatures change to frdgid temperature after a rain storm, instant Ice skating ring in the Jeep footwells.....Going to be a long winter,,,,

how bad does your hardtop leak and in what locations, if you know... i've been checking under my floor mats and the carpet seems dry... my hardtop only leaks a little in the front center area right above the stereo... it's very little though, just a few drips even after a hard rain. I have a 2011 two door btw

Heavy rain, water sits in that center channel where the two freedom tops meet and when I stop, water comes in over the stereo area into my Daystar panel. Will get some in one of the plastic covered screws at the back of the freedom tops too, but only a few drops.

However, my driver side panel has water in it, I can hear it sloshing around. Time to respray it with scotchguard and clean my seals.

My door seals seem to be not sealing correctly, gonna try what other memebers on here are doing, which is to apply some 303 protectant on the rubber seals, was told this restores the rubber and makes a better seal. This morning I had quite a bit of water in the foot wells. Basically , It is a Jeep with removable doors and tops, something is bound to leak, especially if removing the freedom pannels a lot. I just pull the plugs and drain, wipe with a towel, done!!!. Very easy without the carpet installed. After all the rain that came down in the last 2 days, did not surpise me on the amount of water I got in the cabin.

When I pulled the plug, for a second it look as if my Jeepm was relieving itself in public....lol

That's another reason I am waiting until 2012 - in addition to new powertrain and other tweaks, good chance of a stripped model without carpet and bedlined from the factory.

Factory bedlined? Thats news to me. Also any first year production vehicle is going to have teething issues, this might include a newer leaky top.

I have an 09 JKU no leaks ever. However I live in So-Cal, we dont get much rain but so far so good.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but new power train means new issues...lol Not being negative, but everything today is about more emissions , more electronics and big companies saving money. My Jeep only has 1 issue , leaks during very bad rain storms, other than that , she purr's like a kitten....lol

As far as the updated interior and features, if that is what you are looking forward to, then yes, I think you will be happy with the new 2012's

I have a 2012 jku sport hardtop and everytime it rains water sits in the channel right at the window seam. As soon as I move the jeep water falls all over the radio. Its actually a substancial amount that gets inside.
