I've known quite a number of people that have said they've traded their sports car or European sports sedan for a Jeep. I've never heard them say they regretted it.

I did the sports car thing. Found myself going faster and faster around on ramps and thinking: "You know, this isn't going to end well." To get a thrill in those cars, you have to drive aggressively and break multiple traffic laws. Sitting on the ground and looking up at every other vehicle gets old. And the beltlines are getting too high for my taste -- the occupants' heads are the only bits in the wind, and forget about resting your arm on the door with the window down. Bought my JK and my only regret was waiting so long! Just make sure you get a 6-spd.

I'm thinking of trading my Mercedes Benz SL500 in for a JK.

Seriously.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who might be 'crazy'. (Although my wife thinks I am!). She constantly reminds me of the automotive perfection and speed that I get with my thouroughbred German Autobahn Roadster. (for ~100K dollars) and ya know what? She's right.....
But I've owned 6 MB's now including a S55 AMG and it's time to get more 'organic'. It could even be that 'Jeep Thing' coming over me .
I am however, holding out for a diesel but meanwhile I think I've read every g@#$damn thread on this board and don't know how long I can hold out before I make the Rubicon' move.

-Hope that helps and nice to know there I have a 'brother in arms' or two out there Let us German car afficionado's know how your decision goes!

If you are crazy then so am I and some other folks on this forum. I didn't have a sports car but had a nice big cushy Cadillac that I traded for my Jeep. My son loves to blab to everyone that will listen that his Mother traded a Caddy for her Jeep just to see the expression on their faces. I haven't regretted it for a moment. I love my Jeep.

What the hell was I thinking during that time---> I'm a Jeep girl for peats sake!!!
... I don't look back---> not for a second.
It was a cool and fun car though...but not a JEEP!

Liz, wow, the Jeep definately fits you better. Mercedes owners typically don't change their own oil and I know you like to get your hands dirty.

Porsechebreath, certainly not crazy. While I didn't drive a sports car before this, it was a small car with a little zip and decent handling, but I've wanted to go back to Jeep every since I traded my XJ in 10 years ago and couldn't be happier to be back in a Jeep.

I am about to sell my 04 X5 4.4 for a 08 jeep. I have rented a rubi. for a couple of days and really loved it. The only thing I will regret is the oil changes, BMW X5 requires oil change every 15kmiles vs 3kmiles for jeep.

6,000 miles is recommended, at least in the owners manual.

The only thing that makes you crazy is seeking validation from the rest of us nutjobs.
