When I checked into trading mine the low ball price was the same with the lift, tires and wheels or with me putting it back to stock with the original springs and tires.

How dumb do salesman think we are
has anyone else been offered a really lowball offer on their jeep
Here are three Appraisers I use. I take the Average of the 3 Trade-In Values, and that amount is what I expect for my Trade:

h ttp://www.edmunds.com/tmv/used/index.html?tid=edmunds.h..used.utmv.1.*

h ttp://www.kbb.com/

h ttp://www.nada.com/

BTW, $23K was indeed a Fair Offer. Mods are Valued by the Owner... not the Dealer!

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

23K out of the dealer is a good number plus it's easier to deal with than placing adds in Autotrader. Then you have to deal with tire kickers and folks coming to your house to test the waters and offer less than what you listed it at. I traded my '08 in for a '10 and walked away with 92% of what I paid for it (What other vehicle can you do that with??) . Could I have got a few more bucks out of selling it privately? Sure -- but wasn't worth the hassle to me.

hehe

First, when you buy a new vehicle, you have already lost money the second you drive away. Some estimates range from between 15-30% of what you paid for it that same month.

Now second, think of the mods you have like a pool in a house in AZ. Noone pays more for houses with pools in arizona, but almost noone BUYS houses without pools in AZ.

You likely wont see much for your mods (unless they are extreme) but you will likely get more offers because of them.

To me, that was a great offer.

I think they were pulling your leg. Your Jeep is not worth $23K to them. You should have called their bluff. What they did was take you out of the market, cause now you're sure you can get 23K for it.

Good luck!

its all a numbers game anyway..... give you more for the trade but not tae as much off of sticker or vice versa... the trick is how close you get the difference...

the gap between what they give you for the trade versus the new jeep price... sbtract your trade value from the new jeep price... and thats the number you want the lowest... thats real dollars you are spending...

could give you 25k for your jeep and sell you the new rubi at 30k difference of 5k..
or i could give you 21k for your jeep and sell you the new rubi at 26k.. still 5k difference

As a former Jeep salesman I can tell you that you should NEVER EVER mention that you have a trade in until you have negotiated the best price with incentives etc. for the new jeep you want. They will play around with numbers so that you will think you are getting a good price for your trade in. I am sure if you never mentioned your trade in and came back and said I also want to trade this jeep in, they wouldn't give you close to 23k.

I concur with lakeguy. I'll go one further in fact. I never go to the dealer with my trade, but a different vehicle all together. That keeps 'em from looking at it while I'm off test driving the new vehicle. The trade isn't even a discussion point until I get 'em where I want 'em for the new vehicle. Here is what else I do. I research online at edmunds.com, kbb.com, and nada.com for the price of the new and the price of my trade. I also go to Carmax to have them evaluate my trade since they buy cars and will appraise it for FREE. That gives me the leverage needed to seal the deal when I return to show them the trade. This technique has never failed me in the last 5 vehicles I have bought.

Default Update

I have gone to another dealer in my area and they have offered me 26,500 for my jeep. Its just a tough decision to trade it after all the hours i spent working on it not to mention the extra doe.

When I trade a car I look at KBB trade value good and Private Party value good. I take those 2 numbers add them up and then divide by 2. in this case my trade is worth 26,225. and if a dealler doesnt want to give me that then ill keep it.

Im in no rush to trade or sell it.
