I'm thinking of putting a hood lock on my new Sahara because i don't like the idea of someone being able to open my hood so easy.

Has anyone purchased one of these and if so does it work good?

Do a search (I know) and you will find that most that have purchased this vowed to return it. Seems to be bit flimsy according to some.

I'm looking for somehting more heavy duty but have yet to find anything to work with our thin hoods.

There was one write-up quite awhile ago were someone installed a cable type hood release and mounted by the front seat frame. This would at least keep it closed providing no one got inside your cab first.

Some company has got to be working on a lock similar to the TJ's that replaces the rubber hood latches.

I bought the one from Mopar for the jeep looks great and works real well

 

i have a mopar one $200 + works excellent keep it lubed. and it uses the oem ignition key , keyed alike

 

I too have the Mopar one. It's a very solid piece and I really like that it's keyed to the ignition key. What I really hate about it though is that when you unlock it, you cannot remove the key. So, if you're working under the hood, you've got to unlock it. Leave the keys danging, open the hood and then relock it with the hood up to get your keys out. I just know that I'll eventually slam my hood down on it in the locked position. That's one of the reasons I haven't installed it yet. I'm debating whether or not having an unlocked hood is beter or worse than possibly being a dumb a$$ and slamming my AEV hood down onto the locked hood lock. Frankly though I'm more worried about the dealership doing this. As it is, when I first got the AEV hood, one of the geniuses threw it up on my windshield even though it didn't have bump stops.

 

I have the Mopar lock on order and I intend to have an extra chipped key made. Your post made me think to maybe have a couple unchipped keys cut as well; keep one in the tool roll and one in the garage toolbox -- use those to open the hood if I need to keep it open while putting a key in the ignition.

i have the rugged ridge mentioned above and have had no problems at all with it...works great, and took about 5 mins to install...all for $20, not bad in my opinion.

 

lol Hilarious, I never even thought to do something like that. Thanks for the idea. Aside from that, the lock really looks very sturdy. If it stops raining, tomorrow I plan to install it when I install my winch.
