The Jeep isn't as good of a convertible car as I hoped
I kind of expected the sarcastic responses but I appreciate the honest suggestions. I'm not giving up on the Jeep by any means and I'll keep trying different configurations to make it more pleasant during scenic drives. And I'm planning on some backwoods driving on the dirt roads in the Ouachita National Forest next door (wouldn't want to do that with a Porsche).
I took a test drive with the top totally down but didn't get a chance to do anything with the doors off. I doubt any dealer would let you do that.
And if it doesn't pan out I'll trade it in on some other open top vehicle and benifit from the good resale value. It's too bad there are no inexpensive small convertible cars being made right now. Something like a convertible version of a Cruze or Elantra.
This is my second Jeep. I had a 94 with the square headlights and the 2.5 four cylinder. I had both tops on that one. The new Jeep is obviously much better in most ways but I think the old one steered better and felt more sporty because it was lighter.

The only reason I'm asking about it being a 2 door thing, is because I know if I just roll down the back door windows on my 4 door....then I hear this annoying pumping wind sound where I have to crack the front door windows to make it go away. So that's what I'm kind of picturing as "buffeting", and I haven't experienced that with all 4 doors off.
And the ONLY thing I don't like about the convertible aspect of my JK is that there isn't a single button push where I can make the top go down and the doors disappear.
There's 2 types of people. Those who love jeeps and those who hate them. If you want a convertible for a convertible stick with the beemers, benz's, audi's but if you want the most capable, customizable, iconic, best resale value offroading convertible "IT'S A JEEP THING". If you don't like it from start you will never like it.
You need to trade it in on a pink convertible bug! You are making us Arkansas folks look really bad right now. You live in Hot Springs, and you officially said you would've got a 2WD Jeep. Please trade it in
As an attempt to provide a possible suggestion/solution, I would agree with those who have suggested a safari top or the mesh top.
Someone had mentioned the Dirty Dog top, which I'm sure works just as good, but I have the spiderweb shade and it is mesh open air but eliminates the wind considerably.
My wife and I can cruise top/doors off and shade on at 60 mph or so and it's pretty enjoyable. However, I think it's pretty awesome with no mesh top as well, so we may differ there a bit
For $100, it might be worth a try.

It's a JEEP!! If driving around town with the doors off and top down doesn't put a smile on your face like it does me, then something is wrong!!! I try to think of places to go just to drive it around.
I have a jeep and live it. Many people say jeep wranglers are #1 for holding value. But actually Ferrari is number 1. Then Jeep is number 2. Just to clear that up for anyone that was confused.
My information came from a jeep/dodge representative. Just stating that since I know someone is bound to rebut my statement lol.
