The Jeep isn't as good of a convertible car as I hoped
You'll learn to love it!
If you sell it you'll miss it when it's gone!
It really is a "Way Of Life" can't come up with a better description.
They are good for young and old. There is a Camaraderie among Jeepers like no other. A mutual trust, friendship and appreciation no mater what level you are at with the "addiction"

I kind of expected the sarcastic responses but I appreciate the honest suggestions. I'm not giving up on the Jeep by any means and I'll keep trying different configurations to make it more pleasant during scenic drives. And I'm planning on some backwoods driving on the dirt roads in the Ouachita National Forest next door (wouldn't want to do that with a Porsche).
I took a test drive with the top totally down but didn't get a chance to do anything with the doors off. I doubt any dealer would let you do that.
And if it doesn't pan out I'll trade it in on some other open top vehicle and benifit from the good resale value. It's too bad there are no inexpensive small convertible cars being made right now. Something like a convertible version of a Cruze or Elantra.
This is my second Jeep. I had a 94 with the square headlights and the 2.5 four cylinder. I had both tops on that one. The new Jeep is obviously much better in most ways but I think the old one steered better and felt more sporty because it was lighter.

Did I read you have a freedom top? With the T tops off you will get a lot of buffetting since the back half traps the airflow. Soft top all the way off is a LOT smoother. Also; with a soft top all the way back a bikini or mesh top will help a lot and not lessen the experience.
Very simple solution. Go buy a hat! I keep one in the Jeep for the fiancé so when she starts whining about the wind I just hand it to her. My hair, on the other hand, is rapidly sounding the call to retreat. So I do a quick brush with my hand and good to go.

I got a chance to take the Jeep on a 25 mile scenic trail yesterday. It's not a rock crawler type situation - just a scenic dirt road. The Jeep was a good vehicle for it and I liked it. I only saw one other vehicle during the full 25 miles. The trail is only about 10 miles from my house. Lots of good scenery for an open top vehicle around here.

You are so lucky. I'd kill to have a nice trail like that close to my home. Great pics.

The Wrangler's the ultimate convertible. No top. No doors. No windshield. Agreed, it's not ideal for whipping down freeways or anything high speed. Try a slow ride through a scenic route. You're right, it isn't for everyone. You may want to stick with a car for your type of cruising. No biggie. Lesson learned.
A Jeep cannot be compared to a car, so that part must be made clear to some when looking for a new replacement for or an addition as a convertable. Jeeps are not the most comfortable rides in the world nor the most plush....but its a jeep, who could ask for more. A Jeep can drop its top in any number of configurations, take the doors off, rear seat out and then drive on just about any surface on earth (minus a lake, although some have tried). You cannot do that in a car.
In regards to the cost of buying half doors, well there is something that should be disclosed when buying a Jeep and that is what it stands for - Just Empty Every Pocket. Along with this it should be made known that it is an addictive vehicle when it comes to mods......which are not cheap. But the feeling you get in a Jeep is like no other. I had an 80 CJ5 that rode rough and the noise was insane with the top off, but the V8 made up for that; I also had a 05 TJ that was not as comfy to ride in but the wind wasnt bad; now with 11 JK its the most comfy Jeep I have owned. I was put off at first when they came out but after a test drive and then some time off road, I love it, I mean it rides nice then to go off road and get through some nasty stuff, well it makes me smile. Even going down 95 at 70mph I can hear calls on my u connect with the top down and windows down. I think anything more and you may want to invest in a clear bubble to drive around in.
