Mods that pay for themselves?
I'd like to get a list of mods that pay for themselves...see what is for real...(useful for convincing the SO on the wisdom of the purchase)
Lets make it simple...assume $4.00 gal/gas, 15,000 miles per year, 15 mpg as baseline...that makes it an even $4,000 a year for petrol.
Debate is encouraged. Doesn't have to relate just to mpg, but clear justification and proven results required!!!!
Let's list the mods:
River Raider Snorkel...increase in mpg of 2...Anmual savings of $470 Almost pays for itself in one year, the rest is gravy...

First, I doubt a snorkel is really going to increase your mpg. That's most likely wishful thinking.
Second, a good winch can pay for itself in a couple of pulls. After that, it's icing on the cake.

But not necessarily "preventative cost" mods which a winch is..but something that works all the time.
The snorkel guys claim a 2mpg increase...Would like to see if true and equal to any cold air intake advantages...

I would say a winch could pay for itself, if it were to ever save you from calling a tow truck... but I can't think of many mods that save you money everytime you drive...

I'll take this one step further... if you go offroad enough in the rocks, the following things could save you some serious expense.
Skids - especially the engine skid, but if you ever poke a hole in the fuel tank, you would find that the plate was cheaper than a replacement tank.
Solid Differential covers or guards- Again, if you poke a hole in one you are likely to spend as much money getting towed as the solid cover costs.
That said, I have yet to get either body armor or solid diff covers, but I have been working on figuring out how to justify it to the wife!
Along this line, I put in an alarm and save $50/6 months on insurance. That makes the breakeven about 30 months if you don't take into account the fact that stuff is less likely to get stolen this way...
