Mods that pay for themselves?

Perhaps it's just me, but the Hypertech Max Energy Programmer hasn't done anything for me on the performance/economy side of things. High Octane or regular settings don't make a performance change outside of slightly removing some mid-rpm bog. It seems from those who have claimed performance increases are all running automatics which leads me to believe the shift point changes play the biggest role in performance gains.
It might be just because I did the Hypertech last of all my upgrades, but I'm still disappointed. Headers, exhaust, CAI and TBS were all installed previously. The only upgrade made after the Hypertech was dropping in a 180 degree T-stat which provided more of a gain in mpg although minor.
Another reminder was taking my 2006 Hemi Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad cab in to the dealer to get a power steering pump replaced under warranty. As I should I reset the SuperChips FlashPaq back to stock. I won't say that it ran like a pig, but there was a noticeable decline in performance. I ran the vehicle stock for a couple tanks full of gas and also saw some mileage decrease, near 10%.
Bottom line I'm feeling pretty duped by the whole Hypertech Max energy programmer and if it weren't for the speedo recal and what little I gained from a 180 degree T-stat it would be in the trash or on ebay.
Anyway, here's hoping that Superchips or the like comes out with a Jeep programmer I can feel in the seat of my pants and in my wallet.

The homemade trunk has paid for itself. When I go doorless and topless, I was worried about people just walking by and taking things out of my Jeep. I know if someone wanted to get in the back they could, but it would take them a good amount of time know.
The only mods that will pay for themselves are the chips/exhaust by increasing mpg by about 10%... bigger tyres will decrease your mpg....... a winch will probably also pay for itself getting ytou out the shyt when youre wheeling by yourself.... my 0.000002c
Ive got the diesel..... before my chip i was averaging 9.5 litres per 100km...now ive seen the avg consumption even drop to 7.8 litres per 100km...

I am assuming that "CuteAndCool" is the handle for a young lady or a very effeminate guy. In either case, my responses are aimed at on-road mods.
As I have said on other threads, I had the Chip and CAT back mods on my TJ and neither of them did squat for power or mileage. What has worked on my JK "X" mileage wise are the following: (1) Synthetic lubricants, including tranny, T-case and diffs. Biggest improvement is using Mobil-1 for the engine. You can buy a 6 pack of 5W20 at COSTCO for $30. Worth every penny. (2) Get every bit of extra weight out of or off of your Jeep. I am even going to swap out my steel winch cable for synthetic rope as soon as I can afford it. (3) Check your tire psi weekly (4) Keep your engine tuned and (5) Don't drive like a nut. Slow and easy on the gas pedal. Keep you speed at 60 or under whenever possible. In total, the five aforementioned mods took me from 17.2 to 21.5 mpg, I might add that I run the A/C most of the time.
Bottom line: There is no one mod that will allow you to neglect your maintenance, drive like a goof AND increase you mileage. Ain't gonna happen.
Common sense and moderation will increase your mileage more than any mod and cost you next to nothing. BTW, I doubt that any snorkel is going to increase your mileage.
