The trick is to be VERY impersonal with the dealerships...

Send them (ALL dealerships within a 300 mile radius) an offer.

The offer is up to you... but mine was something like:

" I'm looking to buy a '12 Jeep Rubicon with these features: 4 door, Crush color, Auto transmission, cloth seats, and NON-color matched fender flares, and top. I will consider other options.

I have a tread lightly affiliate number, and expect to pay 2% under invoice, maximum.

I have a trade in. It is listed for sale locally... here is a link to current pictures, and all of the information you should require about its current condition. http:xxxxxxxxx Here is the VIN. xxxxxxxxxxxxx. I am asking $25,000 for this trade in.

Purchase is contengent on financing at the dealership at 3% interest rate or lower on a 5 or 6 year loan.

This is a bid request. Many other dealers have recieved the same request, and I WILL purchase from the dealership who can provide the best deal. I am ready to purchase today. In the event that 2 dealerships offer the same deal, I'll shop with the closer of the two.

I will not come into the dealership to discuss this with you. I'm too busy to shop that way. Please call or email me with questions / offers."
If you send this to 10 dealers... 4 will contact you. 3 of them will low-ball you... one of them will give you the offer you asked for (usually the largest dealership) You can take that offer to other dealers, and see if they can match / surpass it. At least that's how it worked for me...

I got almost exactly the deal I was looking for.. The trick seemed to be that I made it clear that I was equally willing to buy, or not buy... I took control of the sale. rather than them guiding the dialog, and thinking they had a 'fish' on the line.... I appeared as a passer-by.. and they could either take my offer (an EASY sale.. but low profit.) or not..

Word is that the Rubicons don't hold their value as well as the other models... I think you'll be suprized what you can get... (don't pay attention to 'trade in value'... Go for 'private sale' value.)

I am looking to do something very similar. I really want to upgrade to a 12 as well...Right now my 08 Sahara has everything listed on my signature (plus a superchip)
Looking to get a 12 Rubi.. my wife thinks I am crazy and I think she would only feel comfortable with it if the payments turned out to be somewhat similar.

The things I have going for me are that my Jeep is built up, it is a Sahara, and I have only owned it for 13 months and have been on deployment for 7 of those, so it only has 33K miles on it.

The things I don't have going for me is that I still owe about $18K on it, but from KBB it is worth about 24K, so who knows?

I may copy/paste the letter you sent those dealerships...
