Default oil leak on cold start only

So i just changed my oil and all of a sudden I noticed oil in the driveway. I thought maybe the filter wasn't tight enough? It was though. It seems that when my engine is cold and has sat overnight it leaks oil when i start it and let it idle to warm up. I'll get a decent puddle too. As I continue to use my Jeep throughout the day it never happens again. When I check my oil the reading is always very high. I know there's only 6 quarts in there because I drained it and added only 6 quarts. Nevertheless I drained a bunch out thinking that I overfilled it somehow. But for some reason it still keeps doing it even though I let out some of the oil. After the engines warm it doesn't do it again. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know what might be going on

If it leaks at all why wouldn't it always leak? It also never leaks while not running.

Is it leaking from around the filter?
If it is, make sure there is only one gasket under the filter, even if you have to take the filter off to see.
Sometimes the old one sticks to the block and goes unnoticed.

No it seems to be either from where the oil pan is attached or slightly above and it is running down one side of my oil pan and on to the ground. I can't clearly see from where. I plan on taking a close look in the morning because I haven't had much time to inspect it and it only happens on first start. So it's hard to tell.

Wash it all down with some brake cleaner before you start it.

If you drained all the oil out and put in only six quarts, it's not overfilled.
Get the double filter gasket check out of the way and go from there.

Turns out that my oil filter was leaking. There wasn't an extra seal left on from last time or anything. I noticed that it seemed to be leaking in between the case and the metal ring just before the rubber seal. This is the second problem I've had with k&n filters. I only bought that k&n because it was a package sale with a jug of oil at autozone. I replaced it with a napa gold and everything is good now.
