Default 2013 Sahara airbag light

Found this threat after my airbag light showed up this week. Went through the painful process of calling the dealer then Chrysler a few times. I asked them why my 2013 Wrangler was not part of the recall when my 2007 wrangler had the clockspring replaced for the recall when both jeeps use the same part number. The only answer I received was that jeep is working on a permanent solution. I told the rep that I believe Chrysler will allow me to put my safety at risk just to save money.

The only solution I was provided was if I had less than 75,000, I can have the dealer diagnose the issue. I'm at 50,000. If it is the clockspring, Chrysler might approve the repair as part of the warranty even though the factory warranty is expired. However, I have to fork over the $70 diagnostic fee. My dealer here in Virginia Beach wants $520 for the work. $284 for the part, but it is on back order. So that leads to the next question I asked Chrysler the second time I called. Why is my Jeep not included on the recall, when the same part used for the recall is on back order, and in my JEEP!

Bottom line...I filed that complaint at the NHTSA link provided at the top of this threat.

I spoke with my dealer and Chrysler corporate. I had the "inspection" where they found my clockspring to be fine and marked my recall as complete. They are unwilling to give me any replacement/updated parts until my clockspring fails.

Default got reimbursed

I got the recall notice a few months ago. Since I had already had the clockspring replaced I went to the recall reimbursement website that was in the notice. I had paid $380.03 to have mine replaced at the dealership where I bought the Jeep. I just got the reimbursement check for that amount in the mail today.

When I had the work done at the dealership in February of 2015 they told me that the repair was warranteed for three years, parts and labor. I don't know if I will still be on the list to have the repair (with the steering column modification) when the parts come in, but will be watching the mail for a notice on that.

If you have already replaced your clockspring you should go to the trouble to seek reimbursement, but you will likely need good documentation.

Just reviving an old thread. This just happened to me on my 2014 JKU with 36,000 miles on it. I just filed a complaint per the instructions on the first page. Complaint Number: 10983905

FWIW, the warranty for the clockspring on 2011+ JKs was extended. I actually took mine to the dealer yesterday. Appointment for Tuesday to be repaired under warranty free of charge.
