Jscan app + a BT OBDII dongle will be ~$35 total, and a very dynamic tool as both programmer and diagnostics scanner, and apparently now able to help program new keys. It's by far the cheapest option and it's actually a lot better than a lot of the alternatives.

any particular BT OBDII ? I see quiet a few makers out there bluedriver, Bafx etc?

It will work with a whole bevy of vgate iCar OBDII scanners (search Amazon). Looks like they went up a little in cost as these things used to be $12-15. Still cheap with the $20 app license though. Worth it for the diagnostics alone. You definitely don't have to go high end like BlueDriver (I have one of these too and they are nice as a diagnostics tool that works with all vehicles).

Not sure if your current scanner can dig down into the individual modules or not, but that is one thing that the Jscan app does nicely. Comes in handy with common issues like ABS codes. I don't know why, but it's a lot faster doing that too than my BlueDriver is. That one seems to take 3x as long to run the scan. I don't use the Jscan a ton cuz I have a BullyDog programmer which I hate but I'm kinda tied to. There are several members here though that use Jscan a lot with great success and are always finding new things in there.

 

Does anyone have experience with Superchips' Jeep Flashcal F5 3571 programmer?

I don't have an F5 unit, but I've had to use one before in a pinch. At the time it seemed like a fairly nice interface that was kinda dummy-proof. I will say the biggest gripe most people have with things like SuperChips, or in my case BullyDog, is downloading updates and such. I'd imagine you could lump HP Tuners and any other similar units in there as well. Any time you're having to hook units up to a computer to update it adds a level of complexity. That is definitely one major plus to Jscan app on your phone and a dongle.

btw, i have no personal interest or gain from recommending Jscan. I have one, but I'd tell you opening that my jeep is all screwed up for various reasons so I still use my BullyDog for most of the functionality (I had an issue getting gearing to stick with Jscan due to weird reasons specific to my jeep but I am the only one I've ever seen have this problem), but I use Jscan often for quick diagnostics and a few other things. There are several members on here that use Jscan regularly with great results, one being @karls10jk . I keep up with these posts pretty good and can only say that for your money, it's one of the most dynamic programmers/diagnostic tools you can get. You sure don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a programmer.

I'd add that a lot of people really still love the AEV procal. It's simple, it works, and it doesn't require any downloads. I used to think it was so dumb that people loved something that looked so archaic to me, but over the years I started to understand the simplicity and reliability of that over downloading files and updates. It does the basic things very well, but doesn't have all the bells and whistles that others offer these days.
