radar detector poll!
There are those that have received a speeding citattion and those who will ... it is up to you to exercise due diligence, but it seems that we all - at one time or another - are distracted and end up driving faster than the posted limit. I like to exercise discretion and cited few, but there are others whose job demands citations be written.
LEO training is still such that the doppler / radar is used to confirm a visual observation of excessive speed. If you use a detector, you will find that the above is often NOT the case.

Radar detector are only for lazy officers. Most of us cops keep our radar turned off untill we see with our one eyes a vehilce that looks like it is moving faster then the speed limit that is how we are trianed in New Mexico. Once we see you approaching then we turn it on and it is to late for you. If we use the laser then radar detector or not your screwed.
P.S while sitting at a stop light and see the vehilce infront of me with a radar dector on I like to turn my radar on and drive him crazy. Its kinda funny to mess with people and not be to serious.
So in my opion I think they are a waist of money. I also dont give tickets unless you are over 10mph

Had one in for a while. Had several from past vehicles that actually could go fast. Found out that none really do good with the new photo radar that's all over Arizona now. I guess I'm at that stage of my life where I just like to slow down and enjoy the scenery. I'm the guy holding up the traffic as I putt along.
When you have to pass me on the two-lane road, just remember to flip me off with a smile on your face. Let's keep that "Jeep wave" alive!

I have one.
Most police around here leave their radar on all the time driving down the road, sitting at the speed traps they trigger on people up ahead giving plenty of warning. They have a job to do and I am glad they are around. There are people a lot crazier than me on the road. I seldom drive more than 5 mph over posted speed so it does not bother me.
Still, if I decide to pass someone driving slow, and the tranny kicks down to passing gear, my Jeep builds up speed pretty quick. It is easy to exceed the limit for a short period of time. Thats when I could get a ticket and the detector has helped prevent that.
I never play or speed in town, but occasionally out in the country I may slide around a bit. When I do, there are no vehicles in sight. Still nice to have mother sitting on the dash.
I did not buy the detector for the Jeep, took it out of my Firebird which now just sits in the barn most the time. I have not had a ticket in 30 years (knock on wood) while riding sports bikes and driving fast vehicles. I try to be careful and use a little common sense.

I had one in my JK for a couple years and decided to take it out. 2 reasons why... 1- I only go like 5 mph over the speed limit. 2- I upgraded to bf goodrich m/t and now I take it a little easier on the speed.
I used to speed pretty bad, but now rarely go more than 7-8 over the limit. It's just not worth the hassle to be constantly on the lookout for cops.
