Default Spare Tire question

Hey guys,

I know there are plenty of questions about whether the tailgate will support a 35" tire/wheel combo and there are mixed reviews, and since mine is one a lease I can't go getting a new carrier/bumper...so I had another question...

I know the one option is to run the stock donut on the back just as a temporary thing but a lot of people think its a$$ ugly (as do I)...Does anyone run without a spare on the back and maybe a can of fix-a-flat or something?? I'm just trying to make a decision that is cost effective and not gonna screw me in the long run...atleast not til the lease is up...

Thanks for the advice ahead of time!!

Buy one of the Mopar Spare Tire covers and hide it.

you could add a or-fab carrier and return to stock after your lease is up... you could use any aftermarket bumper/carrier for that matter, pretty easy to replace the rear bumper.

So much of off roading is a question of just how self reliant you want or need to be. Most of the places we off-road in New England arn't all that far from civilization. Honestly, Lewis and Clark had less equipment on their trans continental exploration than most of us carry in our Jeeps. It's true that a lot of the gear we carry we carry for bragging rights. It feels good to be self relyant and to look prepared. I guess that was engraned into me at a young age with the Scouts. "Be prepared" dosn't have to mean be able to do an engine swap on the trail. To answer your question, a good tire plugg tool like the "Stop & Go Tubeless Tire Plug Gun" works well for many trail side flats. You can get it at DennisKirk.com or find it by searching the net for it. I'd skip the fix-a-flat, that stuff seems to help a slow leak, but won't fix a puncture. Get a simple air compressor or even a bicycle pump. This solution isn't as flashy as a huge spare, but in may cases it get's the job done.
Last thing, think about your surroundings. Are you in the middle of no where? If so, bring the spare. Is a puncture a big possibility or a remote chance? Space and cash is limited, so choose wisely.

Get the full size spare, If you tear out sidewall on the trail you can just wedge
the can of Fix-a-flat in the hole, and keep your fingers crossed.

yes, get yourself an after market tire carrier and a full size spare to go with it. just remember to keep the stock bumper, cause most leases state that you need to return it to stock when you turn it back in, but until then it is yours.

I would like to see someone to come up with a lightweight spare, narrow wheel/tire combination to limb back with. Correct diameters of course, like 33, 34, 35, 37 for example, weight about half of fullsize.

If you are worried about the trie damaging the tailgate, then i assume you may not be doing any heavy wheeling right? i have gone out on the light trails without a spare on a few occasions as stupid as it sounds. But i know my Jeeps and what they can and cant do. So if you are going to wheel your leased Jeep, thetn i suggest maybe ask the dealer for the Mopar bumper with tire carrier, maybe they will do that??? good luck...But dont do anything stupid without the MATCHING SIZE SPARE!!!!
