Default Spare Tire Under the JK????

Was thinking of this the other day........

Seems like most every other vehicle nowadays has the spare on the underside of the vehicle. Certainly a convenient out of the way place. Not so much if you are off road and need to change it. I wonder why the JK doesn't go this route. Here's what I came up with

1. It's an iconic look to have the spare on the tail gate
2. Fitting it would be a pain as the rear end is so close to the rear of the vehicle
3. Full size spare wold be very difficult to fit underneath.

Any other thoughts?

Way back, I had a full size Chevy Blazer with a full size spare in the back cargo area. It took up a lot of space!

There is no room. Where would you put an upgraded wheel/tire?

The spare is completely fine where it is.

I like the old land-rovers with the spare on the hood, but don't think I could see much with mine there.

You wouldn't be able to fit anything past a 35 if that, and you're losing a ton of ground clearance.

Think of it as armor.

what if your "armor" got punctured on the trail and then you actually had to use it as a spare? guess the aftermarket could come up with a skid plate for your spare! I guess the question I have for the OP is what got you thinking about this? Is it in your way when you try to load stuff in the back?
