For those who considered an FJ. Thank god we bought Jeeps!
YEAH BABY!!!
The fit and finish on mine are quite excellent. The only complaint I have is the well-known plastic that scratches super easy.
Maybe I got lucky.
Let's assume that the Toyotas, Nissans and Hondas are going down hill in quality. Does it have any correlation to the fact that they started opening up plants here in the US and the vehicles are now actually built by Americans? It's the same story with Mercedes Benz and BMW. A couple of their models are now being built here.
I wonder if there's a study on which models were actually built here and the quality, compared to the ones made elsewhere.

Yes, the J/K has a long list of problems, mostly early production. In the next year they will likely all be resolved under warranty, including the ugly staling problem.
Mean time Nissan and Toyota owners get to fight and sue over whether they should have ever taken there rigs off-road and whether that caused ring gears, spider gears, t/cases to explode, entire truck bodys to melt away, ect.
As far as made in America? I highly doubt that. The major issues we are discussing have NOTHING to do with assembly. It is all about cost cutting and poor engineering primarily. Although Toyota does claim some miss-treated ring gears from a MEXICAN supplier.

I am beginning to believe that certain folks are plants (would that make them "implants"?) in each companies forum in an attempt to sway sales to their company.......or some folks are just not happy. just a thought
I work in a stamping plant (Engineering). We actually run stampings 3rd tier for Nissan and Toyota. The standards that the Japanese hold us to are far and above what the hold in there homeland. We inherited a few dies to run that came from Japan, along with sample parts that looked like shit, thinning metal and very bad burr's. We made weeks worth of changes in order to be able to run these dies. Our parts were 10 times better then their supplied samples and were rejected. I think they are going through the same things the big three went through years ago. The demand for more cars faster.........Quality takes a back seat to $$$. They to will find out it will cost in the long run as it has for USA. The skills of a worker in the USA is still superior to Japan IMO.
